lambda chi alpha alpha eta alumni association SPRING 2017 EDITION ALPHA ETA NEWSLETTER oklahoma state university www.facebook.com/alphaeta | www.alphaetalumni.com Greetings from Stillwater e academic year is winding down and it ap- pears to be another successful one for the men of Alpha Eta. e Housing Corporation and Alum- ni Association have been busy this year doing our part to help the Chapter maintain its stan- dard of excellence. Much of the recent success at the Chapter level can be directly attributed to the efforts of Scott Johnson AH1316, Vince Kirks AH1402, Jared Wooten AH1507, Jeff Logsdon AH1602, and Kenny Hess AH1658. ank you, brothers, for the guidance you've provided to our undergraduate brothers. e Housing Corpora- tion continues to work on long-range planning for a new Chapter House. Anyone who has been to Stillwater lately can attest that Greek housing is improving substantially. Pike, Beta, Sigma Chi, FIJI, SigEp, AGR, and FarmHouse—just to name a few—have all invested heavily in their houses over the past few years. Even outside of the Greek community, dorms have been replaced by suites. If we want to sustain the oldest continuous fra- ternity at OSU, Lambda Chi will require a similar investment. Some Historic Perspective From the house on Hester to the house built on Monroe to our current location on University, much of Alpha Eta's history is rich in tradition and success. In the past, rent was set to simply cover the principal and interest of the mortgage. e Chapter then funded and controlled the op- erations of the facility. e current operations are a bit different: the active members pay the Housing Corporation a market rate for room and board, and the Housing Corporation manages all aspects of the property and meal plan delivery. All funds of the Housing Corporation are over- seen by the board of directors and kept separate from the Chapter operations, which is overseen by the actives. "We aim to be good stewards of the corporation's money and are proud to say that we have operated with a surplus for many years now," said Darton Zink AH1400. is surplus, along with generous gis from many of our loy- al alumni, has allowed for the retirement of the mortgage, putting our Chapter in a great position for long-term success. Local Chapter operations, such as membership dues and social events, are all paid for and managed by the active members. is split results in a separate payment made by the active members to the Housing Corporation for room and board and to the local Chapter for activities. 923 W. University Room Names If you visit the Chapter House, you will find that some things have changed and some things haven't. For one, the Chapter House received a long-overdue exterior paint job. But there is one trait that seems to stand the test of time: room names. Rooms like Halter, Rainforest, rone, Cowboy and Anti-Cowboy, Crackerbox, Turf, Pullman, e Pub, Luxury, and Crow's Nest are all still current. Rumor has it what's current- ly known as the Vault is due to omas Askew AH1240 busting the door down, forcing David Chapman AH1242 and Linc Smith AH1241 to reassemble the door in a manner looking like a vault door. e Turf Room is the result of a typ- ical college budget. Chris Stark AH1250 and David Gruver AH1239 couldn't afford carpet so instead they used extra astro turf in place of carpet. e rone is named aer Mike Maddox AH1321. Mike would sit in a chair and yell out the window at girls. It was such a regular occur- rence that the members started referring to the event as Mike being "on his throne." Connecting Alumni We are working on updating our alumni records, beginning with the biographical update sent in early March. Once a year, will we send out this biographical update that allows alumni to up- date the information we have on record. ese updates also provide the information for one of the most popular features in the newsletters, the "Class Notes" section. Altogether, the updates are a vital tool in maintaining our records and our ties with one another. Also, please save the date of August 19 for the annual alumni gathering. We hope to be able to share exciting updates on our efforts to build a new Chapter House.
