"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain." ~Joseph Campbell Shanana Rain Golden-Bear It started with a simple post on a Facebook group Saturday night. "I'm giving...can you?" Earlier on Saturday, Zach & Chris- tina Myhres saw a young mother at the grocery store who had a few dollars to get something for her children to eat. Zach gave her some money and she purchased 1 lb. of hamburger and macaroni. Christina was moved to tears after the young mother very humbly said "Thank you, my children can eat tonight," so she shared the experience on Quartzsite Chatter, a local Facebook group with over 4,600 members. The Quartzsite community sprang into action! 125 comments later, residents gathered Sunday after- noon outside the VFW Post 769. Some people had never even met in person; they only knew each other through the Facebook group. As people introduced themselves, do- nations fi lled the back of Myhres' small pickup. Some of the group caravanned to the location where the family was camped. The young mother was visibly surprised by the outpouring of support. She said, "I don't like needing help, but it's been a rough winter." The young mother also said that whatever the family can't use, they will share with others or donate to the Food Bank. She said, "I try to help others, but sometimes it's hard." The children of both the givers and receivers were running around so excited to make new friends. Stories were shared among the adults, bringing everyone closer together. There's a special moment when others understand how you're feeling and feels the same way. The young mother ultimately became a catalyst for others to give and share from their hearts. To stay connected on Facebook, check out the group "Quartzsite Chatter." As one donor said, "wow, that was a feel good mo- ment! Let's keep it going!" Community comes together
