Pickle Festival. There had been a children's area several years ago at the event, but then it was dropped. Thanks to some local Girl Scouts, there will be an area for children. "We heard that there was not a children's area any more and thought that might be something good for our girls to do to learn how to plan it and to give back to the community," said Nicole Reynolds with Mount Olive Girl Scout Troop 389. "We talked with Julie Beck and got permission to do it." Mrs. Reynolds said planning the children's area will allow some of the girls to earn their silver award, After a year hiatus, the children's area is back and better than ever with the Girl Scouts leading the event. Children participate in a pickle race in the children's area during the 2015 N.C. Pickle Festival. The children's area wasn't available during the 2016 festival, but has returned thanks to the Girl Scouts. See GIRL SCOUTS, Page 32 Story by Becky Barclay
