Born September 26, 1932 in Rutherford County, she was a daughter to the late Sam Spears & Essie Dobbins Spears. Daisy was a home- maker who loved her family dearly. She worked for Cone Mills for several years & was actively involved in the com- munity. She participated in softball & was also a league bowler for 40 years. Daisy immensely enjoyed coaching Little League girl's softball & was also a longtime member of Cliffside Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, E.J. Bridges & her second husband of 45 years, Bobby Earls; son, Roger Bridges; sister, Marjorie Dixon & 4 brothers, Bill, Buck, James & Luther Spears. Those left to cherish her memory include 1 son, Ronnie Bridges & wife, Roberta of Cliffside; daughter-in- law, Brenda Bridges of Caroleen; 3 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, & 4 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted w/Rev Mike Elgin & Rev Sam Henderson offi- ciating. Interment followed in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of caregivers at Hospice for their love & compassionate care given to Daisy & to the entire family. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. RHONDA LESLIE CORWIN GREENE Rhonda Leslie Corwin Greene, age 46, of Rutherfordton, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017. She was born in Rowan County, and is a daughter of Doyle R. Corwin and Joyce Smith Corwin of Forest City. Leslie was an active member of Crestview Baptist Church where she and her husband are custodians of the church. In her youth, she attend- ed Spencer Elementary School in Rowan County and when her family moved to Rutherford County she attended Harris Elementary School and later graduat- ed from Chase High School. Leslie was awarded the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of America. She worked at Spindale Elementary School Pre-School Department and was devoted to working with special needs children. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her hus- band, Bruce Lane Greene of the home, three sons, Ryan Greene and wife Brittany of Forest City, Joshua Greene and wife Melissa of Pinehurst, NC, and Aaron Greene of Rutherfordton, two brothers, Jeff Corwin of Traverse City, MI, Greg Corwin of Flowery Branch, GA, and sister, Cheryl Heatherly of Forest City and her beloved grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Crestview Baptist Church wRev Kevin Rohm and Rev Michael Ruff offi- ciating. Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church, 630 S. Church Street, Forest City, NC 28043. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. VERLAN TESSNEER Verlan Tessneer, age 87, of Lake Lure and wife of Arthur Tessneer passed away Monday, April 10, 2017. She was a native of Rutherford County, a retired clerk at Wilson's Store and a mem- ber of Bill's Creek Baptist Church. Verlan was preced- ed in death by her parents Ray and Rachael Crawford Dalton and her son Don Tessneer. Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her husband Arthur whom she was married to for 70 years, is her daughter in law Joyce Tessneer and grandson of the Bill's Creek Community along with a number of niec- es, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held scheduled Bill's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kelly Luckadoo officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Charity of choice: Bill's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund; 1475 Bill's Creek Rd Lake Lure, NC 28746 is the charity of choice for the Tessneer family. Thank you to the staff of White Oak Manor and Hospice of Rutherford County for the care given to Verlan during her illness. CATHY BAYNARD ATHANAELOS Mrs. Cathy Baynard Athanaelos age 70 of Spindale passed away April 15, 2017. A native of Rutherford County, Cathy is a daugh- ter of the late Tan Havard Baynard & Eliza Mae Philbeck Baynard. She is retired from the Rutherford County Public School System where she worked as a teacher's assis- tant. Left to cherish her mem- ory are her husband Paul Athanaelos of the home, 1 daughter Tanya Athanaelos of Atlanta, GA, 1 sister Nancy Walker of Spindale, 1 brother Bobby Baynard of Ellenboro, as well as a number of other relatives and friends. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held from 2-4PM Sat., April 22, 2017 at Crowe's Mortuary; 118 US Hwy. 74A Rutherfordton. In lieu of flowers Cathy requested that memorials be made to Spindale United Methodist Church for the Rutherford County Schools Backpack Program or to the church's bereavement meal fund; 381 Mill St., Spindale NC 28160. Cathy was laid to rest at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Forest City, following a private service for her family. Croweʼs Mortuary is assisting the family. WILLIAM ORION WATERS William Orion Waters, infant son of Michael Waters & Samantha Gosnell, passed away April 12, 2017. He is survived by his parents, Michael Waters & Samantha Gosnell; 1 brother, Nathan Waters; & his grandparents, Janice Gosnell & Wade & Lucy Waters. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements. ELIZABETH CANNON JONES Elizabeth Cannon Jones, age 81, of Rutherfordton, passed away April 12, 2017. She was a native of Cleveland County & the daughter of the late Larry Atkins & the late Ruth Hardin Atkins. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Elizabeth was a loving mother & grand- mother. She loved the out- doors & sitting on the porch. Survivors include: 1 daugh- ter Debra Downey & husband Wayne of Rutherfordton. 1 son: Ronnie Cannon & wife Donna of Kings Mountain. 1 sister: Betty Luckadoo of Forest City & 2 grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church w/Rev William Swink officiating, with interment at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. McMahanʼs Funeral Home & Cremation Services in charge of arrangements. DENISE HUDGINS GOSNELL Denise Hudgins Gosnell, 54, of Rutherfordton, passed away April 12, 2017. A native of Rutherford County, she is the daughter of Rev. Wesley & Lena Mae Brown Hudgins. Left to cherish her mem- ory in addition to her par- ents is her husband, Steve Gosnell of the home; sons Stephen Douglas Gosnell II & US Air Force Senior Airman Christian Shane Gosnell; brothers, Ronald Hudgins, Benny Hudgins, Terry Hudgins, Gary Hudgins & Wesley Hudgins Jr. Funeral services were held at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Leon Brown, Rev. Wesley Hudgins, & Rev. Roger Gosnell offici- ating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Croweʼs Mortuary and Crematory are serv- ing the family. SARAH WHITAKER Sarah Whitaker, age 82, of Forest City, passed away April 14, 2017. Born May 15, 1934 in Cherokee County, SC, she was a daughter to the late Charlie & Julie Thrift. Sarah was a member of Florence Baptist Church & retired from Doncaster & Tanner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Whitaker; sister, Marie Scruggs; & brother, Willie Thrift. Those left to cherish her memory include 1 daughter, Glenda Johnson & husband Bruce; 2 sisters, Rose Lee Bostic & husband Yates, Margaret Lovelace; 3 grand- children; 9 great-grandchil- dren & 3 great-great-grand- children. The funeral service was conducted at Florence Baptist Church w/Rev Bobby Gantt officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Cemetery.
