ARMED ROBBERY Tacotruckrobbedatgunpoint By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Tehama County Farm Bureau cele- brated the start of its 100th year with a centennial cele- bration held at the Tehama Dis- trict Fairground. "It was 100 years ago when several progressive, forward- thinking Tehama County farm- ers joined with a national and statewide effort, led by the Uni- versity of California's Division of Agriculture, to form Tehama County Farm Bureau," said manager Kari Dodd. "The Te- hama County Farm Bureau was formally organized in 1918. One year later, the California Farm Bureau was established." California Farm Bureau First Vice President Jamie Jo- hannson, who served as master of ceremonies, continued the background of the farm bureau in his opening speech. When the farm bureau formed, it took an act of congress to make it of- ficial and a group had to have 50 members. The goal of the organization was and contin- ues to be learning how to farm better and do research to help discover what is the best way to farm. "We have about 360 chairs plus a few more people such as the 4-H, FFA and Tri Coun- ties Young Ranchers and Farm- ers helping out in attendance," Dodd said. "It's absolutely amazing to see the community and member support. It's fan- tastic to be able to celebrate such a huge milestone and our heritage." The formation of the farm bureau was partly for the re- search and learning how to farm better, but has also been about love of community, some- thing the farm bureau is pas- sionate about, Johannson said. "We have a moral obligation to feed the world and our real passion is to make the world a better place," Johannson said. "It's what makes Butte, Tehama and Glenn counties a great place to live.
