RED BLUFF Main Street collision leaves one injured By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter REDBLUFF A study session meet- ing to discuss pharmaceutical drug disposal options was held Tuesday with the Tehama County Board of Supervisors and mem- bers of the Tehama, Red Bluff and Corning city councils present. The elected leaders discussed pharmaceutical drugs and sharps disposal programs implemented in other counties in California and the possibility of drafting a disposal program ordinance in Tehama County and its respective cities. Direction was not given to staff from the three cities or the county, however, the topic will be brought back for consideration. The ordinance would require manufacturers of pharmaceuti- cal drugs and sharps to develop, fund and manage a drug take- back program and installation of kiosks at local pharmacies for the disposal. The kiosks would be vol- untary, but take back envelopes may be required at pharmacies for smaller amounts. In recent years, Mexico, Can- ada and counties across Cali- fornia have passed safe drug and sharps disposal ordinances, which require pharmaceutical companies to manage and pay for the collection and disposal of unwanted medications or used home-generated medical sharps, according to the board of super- visors agenda report. These new ordinances make it easier for res- idents to properly dispose of their prescription medications and used sharps at convenient loca- tions. If and when an ordinance is passed it could take as little as 6 months to get the program HEALTH Countydiscussesdrugdisposal By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter REDBLUFF The Tehama County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the resignation of County Counsel Arthur Wylene as well as forming an ad-hoc to look to outside recruitment for his replacement and that of Pub- lic Works Director Gary Antone. Wylene plans to work for a statewide lobby representing rural counties and Antone will retire. Wylene has been with the county for 14 years, joining the county counsel office as a dep- uty in May 2003 before promot- ing to assistant county counsel in November 2006. He became county counsel in January of 2012. Wylene's contract states that 90 days notice is required for resignation and he plans to re- sign effective May 14, said Te- hama County Chief Administra- tor Bill Goodwin. "As I indicated in my (resigna- tion) letter, I have been selected to be the first in-house coun- sel for Rural County Represen- tatives of California," Wylene said. "They do good work rep- resenting 35 counties and I have been doing some pro-bono work for them for nine years. I'm very honored they have selected me. I don't see it as leaving Te- hama County, but an opportu- nity to continue to serve Tehama County. It's a chance to fight bat- tles in Sacramento rather than here." Goodwin said it was "with sadness but good wishes" he rec- ommended the board to accept the resignation. "Many people don't know this, but county counsels all over consult Arthur (Wylene) and of the 58 counties there are only six county counsel offices con- sidered top notch, and Arthur's is one of them," said Supervisor Bob Williams, who serves as the 2017 RCRC chairman. "I've even been told he's the top of the top notch.
