ByJulieZeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF TheTehamaCounty Cattlemen hosted the annual Spring Field Day Saturday at the Tehama District Fairground, where local ranchers had the chance to show off their skills in several areas of competition. The event has been going on for many years and typically draws at least a couple hundred attendees, said Tehama County Cattlemen President Chad Amen. "It's a good event that gets peo- ple out," Amen said. "It's basically local ranchers competing locally." Areas of competition included working cow horse, stock dog, three-man sorting three-man branding and, this year, mulie roping was added to the events, Amen said. While the club has been around for a while — this being the sec- ond annual Cornhole Tournament — it became official Friday with a charter night, where members of clubs from as far away as Sacra- mento, San Francisco and Santa Rosa attended the evening's fes- tivities, said President Amanda Jenkins. "We had about 45 people at- tend our celebration (Friday night) upstairs at the Palomino Room, where we were inducted," Jenkins said. "We are now an of- ficial part of Active 20/30 US and Canada. We've been around for a while, but had to have 10 mem- bers to become official." The victim was deceased when located and is not being identified pending notification of next-of-kin. Jesse Jesus Jacobo of Red Bluff was identified as the sus- pect and arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail Sun- day. He is being held on $1 mil- lion bail. A transient man, identified as Harold Lambert, came to a woman's door Sunday and asked her to call 911 to report the stabbing, according to the Tehama County Sheriff's Office logs. Lambert told the woman the suspect was still armed and at a nearby transient camp. During an interview with Ja- cobo, he said he began arguing with the victim claiming the vic- tim stole property belonging to him, according to a press release issued Monday by the sheriff's office. As the argument esca- lated Jacobo stabbed the victim. Detective Jeff Garret was the arresting officer on scene Sunday. The homicide investigation is ongoing. An au- topsy of the vic- tim will be con- ducted later this week, according to the release. CRIME 19-year-oldchargedwithmurder By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Children and par- ents lined up just outside the yellow tape marking the pe- rimeter well in advance Sat- urday for the annual Red Bluff Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt hosted at Jackson Heights El- ementary School. Organizers were expecting about 1,000 children to attend the event, which has been go- ing on for more than 50 years, said Tony Carbonell, one of the event coordinators. Volunteers hid about 3,000 eggs scattered throughout multiple sections, divided by age group from 1- to 2-year- olds on up to fifth grade. Several of the parents bringing children to the event came to the event themselves when they were children, Car- bonell said. It took at least a couple of hours to put all the eggs out and several more when the group gathered Thursday at Moule's Tehama County Glass to prepare them. "This event is just one of the ways Red Bluff Kiwanis loves to give back to the com- munity," Carbonell said. "The fines from meetings and the various fundraisers are what pay for events like this." The next fundraiser, which is the biggest of the year for the club, is the Round-Up Pan- cake Breakfast scheduled for 7-10 a.m. Saturday, April 22 at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge prior to the Round-Up Parade. Cost will be $5 per person. Several groups helped the Kiwanis Club put on the event including the Red Bluff Police Department Volunteers In Prevention program and Key Club members from Red Bluff and Mercy high schools. Red Bluff Key Club mem- bers Catrina Torma, who was helping for her first year, and Taylor Nguyen, who was in her third year of assisting with the event, said they en- joyed the experience of work- ing the Easter egg hunt. "I love working with Ki- wanis to help set up the events," Nguyen said. "It's awesome to see everyone come together for the kids." Stevie O'Connor, 7, of Red Bluff was one of many partic- ipating in the event and he was attending it for the first time, said his grandmother Debbie O'Connor. Stevie said he enjoyed the event and es- pecially liked getting to see his friends and hunting for the eggs.
