The soon-to-be released au- dit obtained by the Sacramento Bee and detailed in a story Fri- day found that one of the board's elected leaders redirected civil servants to his own projects and that the board provided mislead- ing information to lawmakers. It also said the board had seen a serious rise in spending on ac- tivities that appear unrelated to its role, which is administering state taxes. "Certain board member practices have intervened in administrative activities and created inconsistencies in operations, breakdowns in centralized processes and in certain instances result in activities contrary to state AUDIT Unexplained misallocated millions for state tax board Staff report @redbluffnews on Twitter COTTONWOOD An officer-in- volved shooting took place just before midnight Friday on Northbound Interstate 5, south of Sunset Hills, in the Cotton- wood area. A California Highway Patrol officer from the Red Bluff office suffered major injuries when he was shot in the thigh following a traffic stop, according to a press release issued Sunday morning by the Tehama County Sher- iff's Department. The officer re- turned fire. One of the two sus- pects was killed and the other injured. CHP Red Bluff Area Com- mander Lt. Lou Aviles confirmed Saturday that one of his officers was involved in the shooting and was injured, but said the officer would recover. The names and ages of the of- ficer and suspects, all men, were not released. The officer stopped a white Hyundai sedan around 11:45 p.m. Friday traveling north just north of Hooker Creek Road and spoke with the two men in the car, the release said. While inter- viewing the suspects the officer was shot in the right thigh and drew his weapon to return fire. One of the occupants was pro- nounced dead by medical per- sonnel at the scene, the release said. The officer and the second suspect were transported to a local hospital for treatment of major injuries. The event, which usually drawsbetween100and125peo- ple, not only raises money for the scholarships but the general fundfortheorganization,which putsonayouthrodeoandCattle Days,arodeocompetitionforall ages,saidPresidentJasonSpen- cer. The group usually awards about $4,000 in scholarships. "Last year we raised about $8,100," said event coordina- tor Stevana Sedita. "Our busi- nesses and our community are very generous. This is my 13th year doing this and they are so incredible." Thanks to the generosity of those donating to the event the group is able to give out be- tween three and six scholar- ships depending upon the year, Sedita said.
