The show is about a commu- nity of outcasts coming together to create a community of their own, said Director Roxanne Bon- jean-Coleman. "It's very timely with the divi- sion of people and it's about real- izing we need each other," Bon- jean-Coleman said. "The cast has bonded well and really come to- gether just as the characters do." Part of what makes this cast unique is that about half of them have a background in acting and half are singers or band mem- bers so they are learning from each other, she said. The chore- ography was also done by a stu- dent with Grace Gwaltney taking on the responsibility. "They're helping mold each other and there aren't any prima- donnas," Bonjean-Coleman said. After hours of debate punc- tuated by angry shouts from student protesters, the CSU Board of Trustees approved a $270 annual tuition hike for resident undergraduate stu- dents. The 11-8 vote was taken by hand, provoking outrage from the students. "Roll call, you fascists," one voice called out. Chants of "No justice, no peace," shouted profanities and a promise of further pro- test followed the final vote. Although CSU officials have said financial aid programs will keep some 60 percent of CSU undergraduates immune from the tuition hikes, the vote EDUCATION TrusteeshikeCSUtuition Students and supporters protest Wednesday outside of the California State University Office of the Chancellor in Long Beach as the CSU Trustees finance committee votes on a tuition increase.
