DDD Delta Xi Chapter at the University of Missouri Spring 2017 E ach year several of the local House Corporation members take time to decorate the house for Christmas while the ladies are gone for Thanksgiving break. This year, we decided to update the tree and mantel decorations to a silver, gold and blue theme. They looked amazing! Summer projects are on the horizon and the board is working on the budget to update all of the second-floor bedrooms with the new wood-looking laminate flooring. This will finish the project and all bedroom flooring will be standardized and complete. Along with the floor replacement, we want to start on one of our long-term projects that has a huge life-safety feature: replacing original wood bedroom doors with fire-rated doors and spring hinges for the entire second floor. To complete the second-floor bedrooms, we will replace several closet doors; paint ceilings, walls, and trim; and install new mirrors and towel hooks (fire-rated doors cannot have holes drilled in them for towel racks). Then next year will be third-floor doors, and the floors will be complete! With a new house director to begin next fall, we must also allocate some funds for sprucing up the house director suite, along with our normal deep summer cleaning and maintenance of HVAC, fire suppression system, and kitchen appliances. Some of our long-range plans include new front landscaping/hardscaping, new flooring and all new décor for the main living area, and continued upgrades to security and technology. I urge every alumna to consider giving of your time, talents or finances. There are many ways to get involved and continue the legacy of Tri Delta sisterhood at Delta Xi. L egacy Shelly Wooten Fair '90 was honored when Delta Xi extended a bid to her and has enjoyed sharing the Tri Delta experience with her mother, Arletha Kelley Wooten, Southeast Missouri State University '64. She says she loved every minute as a chapter member. Some of Shelly's most special memories are from participating in Greek Week and Homecoming skits and competitions. "It was so much fun working with other Tri Deltas and the men in the fraternities. As I look back on my years at MU, those were my best times." As a member of Delta Xi, Shelly had many opportunities to work with talented, creative, and strong women. "We learn when we surround ourselves with strong women. I was given the chance to develop leadership skills, effective communication, and many qualities and practices that translated to my professional and personal life. I also learned acceptance, support, and forgiveness at 901 Richmond." Alumnae advisors had a profound effect on Shelly when she was an undergraduate, specifically Laurie Kohler Halladay '64 and Harriet Peace. Both were dedicated to supporting the growth of the chapter, as well as the individual women. Shelly says they had a positive impact on the chapter because they helped foster leadership in members while providing needed guidance and support. "I remember them both fondly, and I can only hope that my Tri Delta: The Perfect Fit for Me Shelly wooten fair '90 values delta xi membership, hopes to foster leadership Qualities in undergraduates Shelly Wooten Fair '90 with her mother, Arletha Kelley Wooten, Southeast Missouri State University '64, at the Delta Xi centennial celebration.
