Sherwin- Williams Paint Store and Lowe's Home Improve- ment have the paint, the brushes and the encour- agement for a person to get the job done. But couples need to decide which one is going to do what. "Predominately, (when) couples come in, the woman will choose the color and the husband will do the labor," said Brad Broff, assistant manager at Sherwin-Williams. Brofft has worked at the store, located at 2537 E. Ash St., for seven years, and he quickly added that women have said to him they find the painting process to be meditative. He said a man who fre- quently shops at the store discovered the first four letters of "painting" spell "pain." Brofft recommends any- one who is taking on a painting job to paint a large space with a roller and cut in edges with a slanted brush. "I could paint with a brush and roll the walls all day," he said. "It's a much better finish and a much easier pace to get the job done." No matter who paints or which brush is used, some- one has to choose a color. Todd Nichols, a PPG paint salesman at Lowe's, said he has seen plenty of hus- bands walk away with samples — to take them home to the wife. "Usually, the men come in and choose a color and take a bunch of them home to the female," he said. However, Nichols and Brofft agree that the most popular paint color is medium gray. Lowe's, located at 1202 N. Berkeley Blvd., and Sherwin-Williams provide several samples of paint colors for anyone looking to revamp a room or an entire house. Walk into the store, talk to a paint pro- fessional and pick out the color — then ask the pro- fessional about types of paint. Both stores offer the type of paint for any job, but Brofft and Nichols said a satin or enamel finish is perfect for a couple with children or pets. "It's extremely tough," Nichols said. "They carry a paint here that is satin- enamel. The enamel does- n't make it shine any more than the regular satin, but it just makes it more durable and have a harder finish." Nichols said a person can scrub and scrub paw or hand prints and scratch- es off of a wall, but it will not damage the satin- enamel paint. Brofft said the satin-enamel paint makes washing and clean- ing walls less of a chore, but he said a flat finish will hide the possible imperfections of drywall. After picking the color and the paint, it is time to find the perfect brush for the job. Both husbands and wives are welcome to choose a brush. Brofft said Purdy brush- es will suffice for a full paint job, and he said bris- tle brushes work best with oil paints. Brofft said angled brushes help with trim, and a synthetic straight brush will help cover those walls. Grab the samples, the paint and the brushes, and go home to help paint a wall with someone else. News-Argus/BRANDON DAVIS Sherwin-Williams Paint Store, located at 2537 E. Ash St., offers a variety of paint and paint supplies for a one-room job or an entire house. News-Argus/BRANDON DAVIS Lowe's Home Improvement, located at 1202 N. Berkeley Blvd., offers a variety of paint brushes. From straight brushes to angled brushes, a person can be prepared for the sometimes tiring task of painting. News-Argus/BRANDON DAVIS Sherwin-Williams Paint Store allows customers to order wallpaper from the store. Even though paint has become a more popular choice for walls, wallpa- per is available. Spruce up, change your home with a little bit of paint ■ And don't forget the brushes, rollers.
