HOME AND GARDEN 2017 By ROCHELLE MOORE rmoore@newsargus.com Picking out the right swing set for a child's playground can offer dif- ferent options and a wide range of pricing alterna- tives. Children's playgrounds today offer more than just a swing set, with multiuse play sets including a slide, play- house and other features designed to make playing outdoors fun for kids. Play sets can be found at local retail chain stores or at other area businesses, including Hometown Sheds, U.S. 70, where different types of play sets are available. The business has sev- eral Adventure World play sets and the ability to order more custom- designed sets. The Adventure World sets are made with wood that's wrapped with vinyl. "Vinyl is the best," said Todd Fulcher, general manager. "Our most pop- ular one is what they call the busy base camp. (It has a) playhouse, swing and twisty turbo slide. We also have the rock- climbing wall with it." Sets sold in retail stores are made with wood and plastic and can offer different pricing options, depending on the size and amount of fea- tures included. Home- town Sheds sells the sets starting at $2,500, with financing available, including payment plans and rent-to-own options, Fulcher said. "It's important to have something that's safe for kids," he said. "These swing sets don't have anything to hurt anyone, as far as splinters." The playground equip- ment, which should be sturdy and durable, is typically added to a back yard and should be placed in a shaded or partially shaded area, Fulcher said. "The kids won't be as hot and the sun won't be beating down on them," Fulcher said. Hometown Sheds delivers and assembles the sets onsite and offers the option of adding playground padding and borders. "They can put it on rubber mulch," he said. "It's a mat. It's very, very cushioned. You can also get a border around it. It's a service we provide." Hometown Sheds sells about half of its play sets to individuals and half to area churches and day- care centers. The busi- ness is located at 4282 N.C. 70 East, near N.C. 111 South. News-Argus/SETH COMBS Play sets can be cus- tom made with different types of swings, climb- ing areas and slides. News-Argus/SETH COMBS Hometown Sheds offers durable and safe play sets that are wood crafted and covered by vinyl. Today's swingsets offer a variety of options for youths ■ You can have swings, slides, a rock climbing wall and a playhouse. News-Argus/SETH COMBS Play sets at Hometown Sheds on U.S. 70 offer a variety of features, including swings, a climbing wall and playhouse.
