Jim Nielsen on behalf of himself and Assemblyman James Gallagher in honor of the service to their community of two long-time Tehama County residents. A resolution was presented to Al Blomquist in honor of his nearly 41 years with the Tehama County Sheriff's Department and his Oct. 31 retirement as a re- serve deputy. "We sold out at 96 tickets be- cause we cater all the food in- house and we wanted the event this year to be elegant and exclu- sive," said Cheryl Weibling. "The funds from the event tonight go to the Red Bluff CHP Explorers, which is our signature project. There were 84 tickets were sold last year and I believe the event raised $5,000 dollars. We hope to reach $5,000 this year." Several local businesses and organizations donated prizes for the raffle and auction and youth organizations including the CHP Explorers and Tehama County Youth Focus assisted with the event. The Red Bluff CHP Explorer SUNRISE ROTARY Annual fundraiser sells out, fills hall Staff report @redbluffnews on Twitter TEHAMACOUNTY A bright yellow ultralight aircraft crash landed Sunday in the Bend area after a mechanical failure caused the air- craft to become unresponsive. The pilot, Andrew Jessen, 74, of Anderson was not injured as a re- sult of the crash. Tehama County Sheriff's Depu- ties were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. Sunday to a reported ultralight aircraft crash. The person who reported the incident said he saw the aircraft going down from his residence on Via Pasado in Red Bluff, according to a press release issued Monday by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office. The caller was in his personal vehicle attempting to locate the crash after speaking with dis- patchers. Deputies arrived on scene at 2:57 p.m., when they met with Jessen and the caller. Jessen said attempted to land the aircraft and was success- ful, but described the landing as "hard," according to the release. The Federal Aviation Admin- istration was notified and spoke with deputies who were on scene. FAA personnel advised that there would be no investigation due to the fact that the aircraft is not registered and there were no in- juries. The amount of damage to the aircraft was not released as of noon Monday. Crooks, who is the son of James Crooks and Susanna Curry, was also awarded co-Mr. Congeniality, an honor selected by fellow com- petitors, which he shared with Dil- lon Garcia, the son of Ronny and KathyGarcia,whowasnamedfirst runner up. Noah Caylor, son of Mike and Jennie Bachmeyer, was second runner up with Adam Swarthout, sonofColinandSophiaSwarthout, and Connor Sousa, son of Rachelle and Tony Sousa, tied for third run- ner up, finishing out the top five — dubbedemceeKateGrissomasthe "fab five." Remaining competitors in- cluded Tyler Baremore, son of Dar- rin and Annie Baremore, Kaden Barriga, son of Monica and Miguel Barriga, Joel Beaston, son of Vicky and Wesley Wortman, Riley Glea- son, son of Patrick and Kim Glea- son, Ethan Van Lent, son of Jen- nifer Tenney, and Devon Walden whose guardians are Toby and Kelsey Sides. The people's choice award, for which the audience could cast a ballot as many times as they wished for $1 per ballot with funds going to the Red Bluff High School Band, was given out for the eighth year with Noah Caylor selected as the winner. Riley Garcia was given the Directors Award.
