MarinMommiessharesuniquesummercamps ByPamelaFox Special to the Marin IJ B ack when we were kids, summer camps were fun but all seemed to follow a certain theme: go to a place out in the woods where you could swim, play games, sing songs, and make arts and crafts. While many of these traditional camps are still around, it seems we have a lot more choices today. In fact, there's a camp for just about any specialized interest, so kids can really take a deep dive into something they love or explore something entirely new. We took a look through our directory of camps, theMarinSummerCampGuide, to find some of the most interesting and unique camps offered in Marin this summer. Here are a dozen specialized camps you might not have known existed. Celebrate the Bay Area's maritime heritage with a unique camp in Sausalito. The Spaulding Marine Center offers a two-week Summer Youth Program where kids can build a boat, craft a set of oars, or even make a skateboard! Marin Shakespeare Company's camps offer acting opportunities for young thespians of all ages. Younger campers will learn Shakespeare's stories, while older students (ages 13 to 18) will rehearse and perform a production of the comedy Love's Labour's Lost.
