33 health Care Our Orthopedic Physical Therapy Department, an outpatient clinic located off-site at Goldsboro Orthopedics, received an "Outcomes Excellence Award" two years in a row. Patient experience In 2015, we formed a Patient Family Advisory Council to use the experiences of former patients and family members of patients as guides for planning future programs, processes and projects. Studies show that hospital care is safer when patients and their families are included as a part of the healthcare team. Wayne Memorial Hospital implemented a Pet Therapy Program in 2016, and it has been met with great enthusiasm. Studies have shown that interaction with pets has a healing effect, and now plenty of our former patients can vouch for that. In addition to caring for the sick and injured, Wayne Memorial Hospital focuses attention on providing wellness and prevention information to the community through its LiveWell Community Education Series. These free monthly programs feature a physician expert who provides information on a specific topic, while the larger events may include presentations by several medical professionals as well as cooking demonstrations and health screenings. Growth Plans are under way for a new, larger state-of-the-art Operating Room to open in 2018. We opened our new Emergency Department during the summer 2012, nearly doubling the number of patient beds, adding a secure area for behavioral health patients and increasing privacy for our 60,000 ER visits each year. Patients began receiving care in our new CVU in the spring of 2014. The CVU offers a central location and comfortable area where cardiology and radiology patients can be assessed prior to treatment and recover afterward. Typically, the patient's visit begins and ends in the same room, often with the same nurse, and the area provides easier access for families and physicians. Our employees Not only do we take care of our patients at Wayne Memorial Hospital, we work hard to create programs that will improve the health of our employees. In 2015, Prevention Partners awarded WMH the Excellence recognition for reaching the highest standards in workplace health and prevention. In return, our employees give back. In addition to serving as volunteers in all sorts of organizations, our team pledged more than $211,000 to the United Way of Wayne County in 2015. This dollar amount equates to impacting 4,060 lives in our community! Recognized success While we can tout our successes, recognitions and accolades from others mean more. In addition to the awards for our doctors, facilities, performance, and employee programs, in 2015, The Joint Commission awarded Wayne Memorial Hospital its Gold Seal of ApprovalĀ® for Hospital Accreditation. The Gold Seal of ApprovalĀ® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. Ultimately, providing the best patient care possible is our goal. About WMH Wayne Memorial Hospital is a 316-bed community, not-for- profit hospital, which has been serving residents in Wayne County and surrounding areas for more than 120 years.
