32 YOUR COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, MADE BETTER Wayne Memorial Hospital, Now in Partnership with UNC Health Care For many years, Wayne County residents have been fortunate to have Wayne Memorial Hospital nearby, and recently the benefits became even greater as Wayne Memorial Hospital joined UNC Health Care under a Management Services Agreement in January 2016. In a time that many community hospitals have struggled to survive, Wayne Memorial Hospital has been fortunate to remain fiscally healthy, which enabled us to strengthen and expand services that the community needs. While our new relationship with UNCHC allows the hospital to continue to be operated locally, it makes us even stronger by providing access to world-class research, technologies and patient care expertise. As we strive to prevent, manage and heal, we now have additional resources for support. Expert care We were recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a high- performing hospital for 2016-17 for treating patients with Congestive Heart Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Three members of our Medical Staff were voted Best Doctors 2015-2016 by Best Doctors Inc., meaning these are doctors that other doctors recognize as the best in their field. Best Doctors is a list that is truly unbiased and respected by the medical profession and patients alike. During 2013-14, two physicians and Wayne Memorial Hospital received COEMIG designation, recognition for being excellent providers of minimally invasive gynecological surgery. Facilities and surgeons around the world must meet extensive requirements to achieve this status. The hospital now provides angioplasty and stenting, with interventional cardiologists on site two days a week. The area's only physician who is a Certified Wound Specialist is a member of our medical staff and also oversees care at our Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Center. In 2015 Wayne Memorial Hospital became the first hospital east of I-95 to begin using the da Vinci Xi, a technological leap forward in replacing large-incision open surgeries with a minimally invasive approach. Our surgeons have been performing robotic surgeries since 2009, and this new technology allows surgeries to be performed through a single-site port, typically resulting in very small incisions, less pain, minimal scarring and quicker recovery time. health Care LAUDED Wayne Memorial Hospital continues to provide best-in-class service, and we have the awards to prove it. We're proud to serve Wayne County and the greatest award is our patients' trust in us. 2017 Windows of Wayne.indd 32 12/13/16 7:32 PM
