The girls also took part in the Girl Scout founder's birthday celebration at the local skating rink. They participated in the Veterans Day parade and Pikeville Christmas parade. They took up a big collection of canned goods and clothes and donated them to victims of Hurricane Matthew. "We're always donating something," Mrs. Creech said. Some of the project ideas come from a Girl Scout handbook. Others are ideas from the girls themselves. And they earn patches for each of these activi- ties. "The uniform is so that way the girls are unified," Mrs. Creech said. "The major part is the vest, where they put all the patches they've earned. "One patch they earned was for mak- ing cards for veterans last year. This past year, we also made cancer cards for a little boy in Greenville and sent them to him." The girls also earned patches for selling nuts and candies for Girl Scouts and partic- girl scouts Continued from 47 See GIRL SCOUTS, Page 49
