MU CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA EPSILON | COLGATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2017 Yon Clarion Bell FOUNDATION NEWS FROM THE TEMPLE T he events that concluded 2016 left Mu of DKE brothers with a sense of optimism and excitement for 2017 and the years ahead. Initi- ating 13 new alumni brothers at Homecoming brought life to the Temple and enthusiasm for the high quality of our membership. Mu's future looks promising. In November, as previously reported, a private dinner with Colgate's new president (the result of over 100 brothers banding together to win the inaugural Pass the Torch Contest) allowed a small group of DKE leadership to meet Dr. Brian Casey. We also concluded our participation challenge for Mu of DKE classes. We are grateful for the responses from each decade and the way you have propelled the Stoking the Embers to Pre- serve the Flame campaign forward. The winning classes from each decade are listed below. 2017 started off on a high note with a special cocktail reception on campus in place of our typ- ical winter gathering at the Yale Club in NYC. Nearly 60 brothers between the classes of 1957 and 2016 gathered together in the bonds for a cocktail reception and later cheered Colgate hockey on to victory over Clarkson in the new Class of 1965 Arena. We plan to return to the Yale Club in winter 2018. While we have a great deal of momentum behind us, there will be challenges ahead and there are no guarantees of our return to campus. We firmly be- lieve there will be changes in the next two to three years to Colgate's residential experience, but what those changes will be are still not clear at this point in time. Our brotherhood must work together and with Colgate to ensure DKE is included in these changes to Colgate's residential program. We have expressed to both Dr. Casey and Chair- man of the Board of Trustees Dan Hurwitz our sincere desire for DKE to be the model alumni organization at Colgate. We need your contin- ued efforts in this endeavor. Volunteering for Mu and for Colgate (and winning the Pass the Torch Contest again this spring) will help cement our role as the model alumni organization: an organi- zation that Colgate will want to have supporting a recognized undergraduate fraternity. We stand on the verge of an important moment in the history of Mu of DKE and the timing of our campaign could not have been any better consid- ering the changes coming down the line for Col- gate, no matter the end result of these changes. With nearly $2 million raised, we are moving closer and closer to our goal of $3.3 million. Your pledges and gifts to this important campaign will ensure that Mu is ready for the next phase at Col- gate University. More than ever, we need your involvement and fi- nancial support. Your gift will honor our collective responsibility to care for the Temple and secure our financial strength in order to allow for an active and meaningful DKE experience many years into the future. It is hard to believe, but it has been al- most 12 years since there has been an undergradu- ate DKE at Colgate. And yet, here we are, a strong, engaged, and growing alumni brotherhood. Please consider your part in these efforts. You can use the enclosed pledge form to inform us of your commitment or go online to www.mudke.org. If you have already made a gift, we thank you, and humbly ask you to consider extending your pledge or making an additional one-time gift to move this project forward with the speed required. Thank you for your support of Mu of DKE and we look forward to sharing more with you soon. In the Bonds, Barry Ridings '74 Sean F.
