The man found had not been positively identified as of Fri- day, however, the Tehama County Sheriff's Office contacted Siskiyou County detectives on Jan. 26 to in- form them they recovered a body of a man found in the Sacramento River in Red Bluff, and he fit the description of Trygve "Karl" Lar- son, 79, who was reported missing on Jan. 19. AccordingtotheTehamaCounty Sheriff's Office, the body not only matched the description of Lar- son but there were some indicators found at the scene that led investi- gators to believe the body was that of the missing man. The body appeared to have been in the water for several days, ac- cording to the release. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause and manner of the death. The care center is in the pro- cess of kicking off its fundrais- ing efforts to purchase 22 new cat condos for the population housed within its walls and the hope is to raise enough money to replace all of the cat cages at the facility. "Our current cat cages have seen 14 years of hard use," said center manager Christine Mc- Clintock. "We want to replace our cages with larger, hu- manely designed cat condos. New cages will drastically re- duce stress on the cats and kittens we care for, which re- duces illnesses and staff time. It means cats will stay health- ier and likely be adopted much quicker." With an increase in cats each year, having the new cages could mean more cats helped during the year, she said. It also means the cats will have a private litter area sep- arate from the main cage and extra room for cats to stretch, turn around and nap comfort- ably even when they're shar- ing a cage. "Last year we took in 578 cats," McClintock said. "The number in the shelter varies a lot with the time of year. Right now is the off season, but usu- ally we have an average of 35 cats in the shelter at a time plus we generally have some in foster care." The cost for the complete replacement of cages is about $25,000 and the care center is hoping businesses and individ- uals will step forward and do- nate funds in exchange for ad- vertising their name on the do- nated kennel.
