Bruce Davis, 74, is serving a life sentence at the California Men's Colony at San Luis Obispo for the 1969 slayings of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald "Shorty" Shea. Davis was not involved in the more notorious killings of actress Sharon Tate and six others by the Manson "family." Davis testified at his 2014 hear- ing that he attacked Shea with a knife and held a gun on Hinman while Manson cut Hinman's face with a sword. Costs for the consultants are expected to be between $10,000 and $15,000. "I know many of you proba- bly noticed recently that Shasta County did a thorough review of their cost for operations of their facility and based on that it made me realize that I wanted to bring this to the board for consideration as an update of our costs," said Te- hama County Chief Administra- tor Bill Goodwin. Like Tehama County, Shasta County was awarded SB1022 grant money from the state for a 64-bed jail expansion facility and its new projections are much higher than the initial estimates in part due to increased staff- ing. JULIE ZEEB — DAILY NEWS By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews. com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The California Department of Food & Agri- culture Fairs and Expositions Branch preformed an eco- nomic impact study for the Te- hama District Fair's 2015 sea- son showing a clear indication of the impact the fair has on state and local economies, and a report was presented at the board of directors meeting on Jan. 24. According to the study, the Tehama District Fair and other fairs in California create jobs and income for the commu- nity each year with the vari- ous activities planned through- out the year. The Tehama District Fair- ground creates these jobs through an economic rip- ple effect of fairground pa- trons' spending and the busi- ness activity required in sup- port of fairground activities and events, according to the study. In 2015, the equivalent of 145 jobs were created as a result of the spending by the fairground, its supported busi- nesses and its attendees. In that same year the labor income generated by these additional jobs was around $3,372,000, the study found. The fair generates business tax revenue through the col- lection of state and local sales taxes, transient occupancy tax, possessory interest tax and other taxes and fees. These revenues stimulate further economic activity by providing for programs that benefit the local community, according to the study.
