The Tehama County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls just after 10 a.m. Monday re- garding shots being fired and an attempted rob- bery situation. Deputies responded to the entrance of Black Ranch, where the owner of the residence reported a deceased Hispanic man was in his driveway. While at the first scene, deputies received an additional call at 10:30 a.m. from the Corning Chevron gas station on 99W of a man with a gunshot wound who entered the station and fell on the floor. The man later succumbed to his in- juries and died before making it to the hospital. Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston said the of- fice received multiple 911 calls regarding the shooting and believes it is a home invasion incident that resulted in shots being fired. Officials received reports from individuals who saw two men fleeing the area on foot and a white pickup truck leaving the area. The event, which is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the State Theatre, is put on by the Red Bluff Ex- change Club with assistance from the Red Bluff Soroptimists Club. Auditions were for three categories including primary division for ages 6-10, junior division for ages 10-14 and senior division for ages 13-18. Directors include Pres- ident Dale McFall, Pres- ident Elect Anabel Her- nandez, Treasurer Terry Barbo, Ashley Kester, Jerry Crow, Darian Mikkelson, Kandace Pendergraft, Kristin Behrens, Lauren Price, Maria Salas, Past President Melodie Poisson, Oscar Mundo, Ronda Hay- wood, Steve Kimbrough and Tony Cardenas. "The Corning Cham- ber of Commerce was es- tablished in 1921 and then incorporated in April of 1956," said Executive Di- rector J.C. Pendergraft. "Since that time, we have had a long-standing in- volvement with the com- munity of Corning. We work very diligently with the businesses to ad- vance what we have to of- fer, based on their needs. By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter REDBLUFF Saturday's bull sale at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale saw a packed house come to watch 289 bulls up for auction with a Hereford from Y Cross Herefords in Bonanza, Or- egon the top seller in the first 100, selling at $10,500 to BK Ranches. "A few of the bulls got snowed in, but we have a great set of bulls," said Sale Director Ron Anderson in introducing the sale. The event kicked off with the presentation of $16,000 worth of scholar- ships to 13 recipients out of 32 that applied in 2017. Recipients of the Andy Peek Memorial Scholar- ship, which has given out $144,250 since it began in 2009, included: Corte Smith Crescent Mill; Ka- don Leddy Stockholm, South Dakota; Valeriana Urricelqui, Palo Cedro; Wesley Woolery, Fort Col- lins, Colorado; Kayla Mc- Giffin, Red Bluff; Tyler Huf- ford, North Powder, Ore- gon; Brooke Niederhauser, San Luis Obispo; Ryan Gif- ford, Eagle Point, Oregon; Chloe Fowler Igo-Ono; Ky- ler Puckett, Red Bluff; Erin Clendenen, Cottonwood; Wayde Henderson, Cotton- wood and Adam Blalock, Millville. A bottle of medication donated by Cottonwood Vet was auctioned off with 100 percent of the $2,500 brought in going to the scholarship.
