Staffreport RED BLUFF The ninth annual all-you-can-eat community crab feed hosted by the St. Elizabeth Community Hospital's Auxiliary volunteers and Red Bluff Sorop- timists women's organization, along with the help from local schools and businesses, is sched- uled for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Community Center, 1800 S. Jack- son St. The event, which goes until 9 p.m., will have an abundance of Dungeness crab, clam chow- der, sourdough rolls and butter, a green salad and dessert and cof- fee. There will be a no host beer and wine bar available. Tickets are $50 per person and VIP tables of eight are available for a donation of $1,000. Tickets can be purchased at http://tickets.thecrabfeed.com/ or at the St. Elizabeth Commu- nity Hospital gift shop. The crab feed relies on dona- tions from all who wish to help the auxiliary in its mission to en- hance service to the patients at the hospital. All proceeds from this event go toward purchasing life-sav- ing equipment for St. Elizabeth Community Hospital and Sis- ters of Mercy and stay in the ST. Tehama County winners in- cluded Steven Fox of Dairyville placing fourth in division three, Lonnie Franklin of Corning placing first in division two, Barbara Lowry of Red Bluff placing second in the rookie class, Johanna Rector of Corn- ing placing third in division three, Tonya Redamonti-Wil- liams of Red Bluff placing first in division one and Alfredo Valle of Corning placing first in division three. Jacki Cooley of Orland placed as well, com- ing in fourth in the second di- vision. The top two from each divi- sion will go on to compete at the national level. Mayor Gary Jones presented a certificate of appreciation to Sanders and said he has served this community faithfully and with great dedication during his 20 years in the Red Bluff Po- lice Department. Sanders began his career in Red Bluff on Dec. 9, 1996. "Iamveryhappytohaveworked here for more than 20 years now and I'll simply say hopefully you all keep me around for another 10," Sanders joked. Sanders, who's been chief for a year and a half, said the job is a lotoffun, is always interesting and takes a lot of hard work. Sanders said he has seen people at their best and their worst and throughhistimeatthedepartment he has learned a lot about people. "One thing I can say about this profession, in general, is that I've never been bored," Sanders said. "And that continues to this day in this role. There is always some- thing new and different going on and always something to learn." Greg Pappas, who couldn't at- tend the meeting Tuesday, was rec- ognized for his five years of service working at the Red Bluff Commu- nity Center. Councilwoman Daniele Jack- son said Pappas has stayed con- sistent in his work and is the one person that has been there to train allnewin-comingemployees,ashe has been trained in many areas of the center. RED BLUFF Police chief recognized for years of service By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter CORNING A 12-member Eco- nomic Development Action Committee was recently estab- lished in Corning, with the first meeting held in the second week of the new year, to work on im- proving recreation, tourism and economic growth within the city. Corning is working with 3CORE, a private, non-profit corporation that works as the economic development planning and coordinating agency for the Tri-County region composed of Butte, Glenn and Tehama coun- ties, to develop economically as a community and move forward in a positive way. The committee is a group of stakeholders within the commu- nity working to improve work- force development, address generational poverty and pro- mote business development and downtown revitalization within Corning and surrounding area, said Kristina Miller, city man- ager and government represen- tative on the committee. "As the committee works to complete goals, it will bring other community groups and members to assist," Miller said. Committee member Tony Cardenas said the group will focus on economic development and everything that entails. "The committee will address the different segments within the community and the issues that may deter economic devel- opment," Cardenas said.
