Taking place in Park City, Utah in January 20-26 – the same time and place as Sundance – the 23rd edition of the fi lm festival will host 35 world premieres, nine North American premieres and 10 US premieres. The Opening Night fi lm is festival alumni Cullen Hoback's investiga- tive documentary, "What Lies Up- stream." The Closing Night feature is "After Adderall," Stephen Elliott's narrative about James Franco's production based on Elliott's own memoir. "This year Slamdance's Special Screenings selections are hard-hit- ting, revelatory fi lms that deserve exposure in Park City," says Paul Rachman, Special Screening Pro- grammer. "Averting trends and remaining premiere agnostic this program refl ects the gut instinct Slamdance programmers rely on in their singular choices." Many of the festival's alumni also return with projects in the Be- yond Program, selections featuring emerging narrative and documen- tary fi lmmakers working beyond their fi rst features. Movies in this program are eligible for the Audi- ence Award. Additionally, its Shorts competition showcases 51 US and 20 interna- tional productions in the Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Anar- chy and Experimental sections. All Slamdance fi lms are programmed entirely by the Slamdance fi lmmak- ing community from blind submis- sions. "Sweet Pie" (USA) World Premiere Director: Pierce Cravens Sweet Pie, also known as Paul Win- er, revives his career as the baron of bare-assed boogie-woogie and blues at the Public Theater in NYC. Cast: Sweet Pie aka Paul Winer, Joanne Winer, Will Perone The Slamdance Film Festival is an annual fi lm festival focused on emerging fi lmmakers and low-bud- get independent fi lms, created in 1995. www.SlamDance.com Senior Moments
