Everyone is quick to say the weather forecasters failed; however, a near miss makes for good practice in terms of preparing for the bull's eye storm that will eventually come. Residents should create a 72-hour kit if they do not have one or replace the used items if they had one. Ready.gov should be reviewed and Severe Weather Awareness Week is just around the corner (March). Read Storm Updates in Multiple Languages Fayetteville residents can read storm updates when winter weather occurs in over 100 languages on the City's website at www.FayettevilleNC.gov. When you log onto the website, click on "Translate" at the top right and select your spoken language. Residents can read the City website in languages ranging from Albanian to Zulu and Yoruba to Amharic. Community Development is Now Accepting Applications for the Disaster Recovery Housing Repair Program The City of Fayetteville's Community Development Department is now taking applications for the Disaster Recovery Housing Repair Program. This program is designed to serve as an additional means of financial assistance for low-to-moderate income homeowners and investor owners with rental property that houses low-to-moderate income tenants that sustained damages as a result of Hurricane Matthew. The goal of this program is decrease the financial burden to property owners located within the city limits of Fayetteville with housing repair costs not fully covered by FEMA, SBA or private insurances for housing units affected by Hurricane Matthew. The Disaster Recovery Housing Repair Program will offer grants up to $5,000 to low-to-moderate income owner occupants and zero percent interest loans up to $5,000 for investor-owners housing low-to-moderate income tenants to assist with housing repairs. Any low-to-moderate income persons meeting HUD's income guidelines affected by Hurricane Matthew are eligible to apply. This includes owner occupants and the tenant of the investor owner property. All applicants must reside within the city limits of Fayetteville and provide verification that they have applied for FEMA assistance and have filed a claim for insurance, if applicable.
