NowÊonline:Ê www.upandcomingweekly.com Call 484-6200 CUMBERLAND Winter Reading Program At Library co.cumberland.nc.us Find us on social media The Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center is offering a Winter Reading and Activity Program for children (ages 11 and under) and youth/adults (12 years and up) through Jan. 31. This program is designed to encourage reading during the winter season. To participate, pick up a reading log at any library branch. Turn in your completed log to receive a prize, while supplies last. All reading logs are entered into drawings for a chance to win one of eight gift baskets. The children's baskets include a gift card to Barnes & Noble, rubber ducks and more. The youth/adult baskets include hot chocolate, a mug, a blanket and movie tickets or a gift card. Youth and adults will also be entered into a grand prize drawing for one of two $50 gift cards. Additional logs can be filled out for more chances to win. Solar Energy Workshop Jan. 18 Cumberland County Cooperative Extension will host a free solar energy workshop Jan. 18 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Agriculture Center at 301 E. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. Dr. Herbert Eckerlin and Dr. Ron Heiniger, both of N. C. County Offices Closed Jan. 16 for King Holiday Cumberland County Government offices and the court system will be closed Monday, Jan. 16, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This closing includes all library locations and Solid Waste landfills and container sites. The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners believes that all citizens should have the opportunity to participate in their local government. One way of participating is by serving on a citizen advisory board. The citizens who volunteer for these positions are the advisers who make recommendations that ultimately shape the future of their community. Citizen Advisory Boards Qualified Property Owners Can Get Repair Help Qualified property owners in Cumberland County who suffered damage to their homes related to Hurricane Matthew may be eligible for disaster recovery repair grants available through programs administered by Cumberland County Community Development. Property owners who live in unincorporated areas of the county or the towns of Eastover, Falcon, Godwin, Hope Mills, Linden, Spring Lake, Stedman and Wade should apply for grants through the county's Community Development. Property owners inside Fayetteville city limits should apply through Fayetteville Community Development. Cumberland County Community Development has funding to assist homeowners at or below 80 percent of the area median income in need of financial assistance for housing rehabilitation. The median income in Cumberland County is $41,750 for a family of four. Applications must be made in person at the Community Development office, located at 707 Executive Place, Fayetteville.
