Chris Perez was riding a 1981 Kawasaki 250 on Lake Avenue approaching the intersection with Center Avenue as Elva Grace, 43, of Red Bluff was driving north on Center in a 2011 Lexus. Perez broadsided the Lexus, which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle, sending him over the Lexus and hitting his head on the pavement as he landed, said California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Troy Somavia. Injuries included a skull fracture and an ex- posed compound fracture on one of his legs. Upon an interview with Perez, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, it was learned that the motorcycle had no brakes and he had been using his feet to stop the mo- torcycle, Somavia said. Perez was taken by ambulance to St. Eliza- beth Community Hospital, where he was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. According to the CHP website Wednesday, someone from Grace's vehicle was taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital about 2:30 p.m. COLLISION Manreceives major injuries in motorcycle collision D DowJonesIndustrial 19,819.78(-13.90) D Standard & Poor's 2249.26 (-0.66) D Nasdaq 5432.09 (-6.47) BUSINESS Dozens of 20-ton garbage trucks will be parked outside the celebration zone in New York's Times Square.
