"We had about 400 kids come through from 160 families," said Tehama Together Executive Director Orle Jackson. "This was our third year sponsoring the event and the second year of us putting it on by invitation only. It's a tradition that Red Bluff has been doing for 26 years ever since the community center has been here. It's heartwarming to see the families come and know their kids are having a good time and a great hol- iday experience." Children's names are submitted by local or- ganizations such as the SERRF after school pro- gram and Head Start, which had the largest num- ber of families participating, Jackson said. Attendees enjoyed games, crafts and other fun before heading in to see Santa where CHP offi- cers helped facilitate getting the gifts out. The vehicle was towed from the scene. No sus- pect had been identified as of 4:30 a.m. Satur- day, but the investigation into the incident was ongoing. This was the fourth year Danny Munoz and the Ger- ber Children's Christmas Fiesta Committee hosted the event, which typically draws between 450 and 600 children. For Munoz the event is a way of giving back to his community and paying it forward since he was once one of the Gerber children attending the event, which has been a tradition for at least 50-60 years, he said. "It's for the kids," Munoz said. "It's truly a commu- nity project. It shows the children there is good in the world and that's what this is all about." Each year it gets bigger and bigger thanks to the generosity of the community." By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The weather was brisk but sunny Sat- urday for the 39th annual Pioneer Christmas Party hosted by the Ide Adobe Interpretive Association and California State Parks at William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park. "It's a really, really pretty day for our event," said State Parks Inter- preter Jennifer Pooley. "We're lucky it's this nice, especially after our re- cent weather. The Pioneer Christmas Party is about bringing people together to share some of the hol- iday traditions from the past. It's a great chance for families to enjoy and revisit Christmas activi- ties, and we simply do it because it is a lot of fun." The event drew about 150 people in 2015 so with the better weather, she was hoping for about 200 guests, Pooley said. Some of the more popular sta- tions attendees seem to en- joy are candle-making and the treats such as cookies and wassail. New this year were wagon rides offered by the local group of the Re-Enac- tors of the American Civil War who put on a big bat- tle in Dog Island Park ev- ery year in April. Guests also had the chance to enjoy a host of activities in the visitors center including listening to Christopher Pooley play Christmas tunes on a xylo- phone and making hearts and other hand-crafted items. The layout looked a bit different with the absence of the valley oak recently brought down due to its condition. The tree lost a majority of its limbs in July 2013 with one of them damaging the adobe roof and top part of the walls.
