ByJulieZeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF TheTehamaCounty Facilities Maintenance Depart- ment spruced up the entry of the former Tehama County Court- house at the corner of Oak and Washington streets for the Christ- mas holiday and decorated a tree in the annex. The tradition is one that has been taking place for at least 45 years going back to the time of Collis Henderson. This year, with the move of the Tehama County Superior Court to its new location on Walnut Street, the group re-created a scene from years past using a sleigh and po- lar bears made by Bob Colyear. Typically though the group starts planning the display sometime around the beginning of the year, said Director Russ Skelton. "We try and change it up every year," Skelton said. HOLIDAYS Countyworkers spruce up former courthouse for Christmas By John Antczak and Kristin J. Bender The Associated Press LOSANGELES A pre-winter storm drenched California with rain and dumped nearly three feet of snow to help bolster the vital Si- erra Nevada snowpack but also triggered mud flows, street flood- ing and the dramatic rescue Fri- day of two homeless women and 10 dogs from a flooded river is- land near Los Angeles. With thousands of acres of wildfire burn scars all over the state, authorities were warily monitoring barren slopes where parched earth soaked with rain can cause life-threatening mud- slides. Mud from the San Gabriel Mountains flowed into the foot- hill city of Duarte east of Los An- geles before dawn, affecting 18 homes where residents were told to not to leave, KCBS-TV reported. Firefighters rescued two people stuck in cars. A helicopter was sent Fri- day morning to a homeless en- campment on the small is- land in the San Gabriel River. WEATHER State hit with rain, nearly 3 feet of snow Staff report ORLAND Tehama County Sher- iff's Deputies responded to a re- ported victim of violence call around 7:30 p.m. Thursday on In- grham Road in the Capay area be- tween Orland and Corning. Upon arrival, deputies con- tacted Jimmy Otero, 56, of the Capay area, who had blood on his face. He reported that two women lured him to an un- known address on Ingrham Road in the Capay area where he was robbed by two men in a newer Ford Mustang that fol- lowed the man and the women into the driveway of the resi- dence on Ingrham, according to the press release issued Fri- day by the Tehama County Sher- iff's Office. One of the men was armed with a knife and demanded that Otero turn over his wallet to them, ac- cording to the release. Otero com- plied and the robbers removed $1,000 in cash from his wallet. According to the sheriff's logs, Otero told deputies he had been at Rolling Hills Casino and won money. The second man struck Otero in the face with an unknown blunt object before the men left the scene with the two women driving toward Orland. Otero went to a residence nearby and had the homeowner call 911. He refused medical treat- ment and was released from the scene. The suspects were still at large as of 10 a.m. Friday.
