G oodbye 2016. Somehow it feels like more than just a year has come to an end. It feels bigger than that. It's more than just the election, but the election provides context for our emotion. Regardless of your political inclinations, you are glad it's over. The presidential campaign has been troubling to many and exhausting to everyone. Uncertainty about the future of America in general and for the Hispanic community in particular is on everybody's mind. Many say that Trump will be good for businesses, but bad for Hispanics. If you read or listen to the news, the future of Hispanics in America is in serious jeopardy. So as businesses that depend on a vibrant Hispanic community, is there any reason for optimism? My short answer is yes and I'll base my optimism on two predictions. 1. President Trump's focus will be to energize the economy by reducing the size and impact of government. That will translate into lower taxes and less regulation. Businesses, regardless of the type or size, will have more freedom to operate as they see best without interference by the bureaucratic state. 2. Because his focus is the economy, he will not deport millions of people that contribute to that economy but have no legal standing. Call it whatever you want to, amnesty, reform-it doesn't matter. America's economy simply will not work without the power that immigrants, legal or not, provide. It never has and never will. We know that and so does he. There are many other complicated and diffi cult issues that affect our lives, both here and around the world. We pray that America, and all the people that call her home, will continue to be the world's best hope for peace and prosperity in 2017. Happy New Year! Es más que sólo las elecciones, pero las elecciones proporcionan un contexto para nuestra emoción. Independientemente de sus inclinaciones políticas, seguramente usted se alegra de que haya terminado. La campaña presidencial ha sido preocupante para muchos y agotadora para todos. La incertidumbre sobre el futuro de América en general y para la comunidad hispana en particular está en la mente de todos. Muchos dicen que Trump será bueno para las empresas, pero malo para los hispanos. Si usted lee o escucha las noticias, el futuro de los hispanos en América está en serio peligro. Así como las empresas que dependen de una comunidad hispana vibrante, ¿hay alguna razón para el optimismo? Mi respuesta corta es sí y basaré mi optimismo en dos predicciones. 1. El Presidente Trump se centrará en energizar la economía al reducir el tamaño y el impacto del gobierno. Eso se traducirá en impuestos más bajos y menos regulaciones. Las empresas, independientemente del tipo o tamaño, tendrán más libertad para operar como mejor lo consideren sin interferencia del estado burocrático. 2. Debido a que su enfoque es la economía no deportará a millones de personas que no tienen estatus legal porque contribuyen al crecimiento. Llámelo como quiera, amnistía, reforma, no importa. La economía de EE.UU. simplemente no funcionará sin el poder que proporcionan los inmigrantes, legales o no. Nunca lo ha hecho y nunca lo hará. Nosotros sabemos eso y él también. Hay muchos otros temas complicados y difíciles que afectan nuestras vidas, tanto aquí como en todo el mundo. Oramos para que América y todas las personas que la llaman su hogar, continúen siendo la mejor esperanza del mundo para la paz y la prosperidad en 2017. ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
