www.texaspikes.com The Beta Mu Review 2 Getting to Know Lucas Anderson '14, Beta Mu's 2016-17 Chapter President L ucas Anderson is Pike's new 2016-17 president. As a sophomore, he served as Beta Mu treasurer and as a rush captain. He is a junior from North Carolina and is studying finance in the McCombs School. Lucas was tapped into Texas Cowboys in spring 2015. Q: Tell us where you were born and raised and about your parents/family growing up. I was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., and raised in Mooresville, N.C., which is a suburb about 25 miles north of Charlotte. I attended a local private school with a graduating class of 75 students and spent most of my time growing up playing AAU basketball. My parents are both physicians: my father is an emergency room doctor and my mom is an anesthesiologist. I have one younger sister who is in junior high. Q: Being from out of state, what attracted you to the University of Texas and to Pike? Coming from out of state, I was drawn to the University of Texas because of the prestigious business program, the city of Austin and the school size. Not knowing anyone at the school, I was very interested in joining a fraternity to best acclimate myself to the new environment. I was immediately drawn to Pike as I really felt like I fit in after getting to know the rush captains and actives during orientation. Another reason was that I was one of the first guys to sign in my pledge class so it gave me the opportunity to help build my pledge class during rush, which really excited me. Q: What is your major and what are your career interests/long-term goals? I am a finance major in the McCombs School of Business and am pursuing a career in investment banking. Long term, I would like to start or man- age a private equity firm while living in either Dallas, Austin or Charlotte. Q: In between your Beta Mu duties, being a dedicated student and Texas Cowboy, what do you do for fun? Do you have any hobbies? For fun, I really enjoy playing basketball and fantasy football as well as attending concerts. I spend a lot of time keeping up with sports, particularly college and professional basketball and football. Q: Who would you invite as the four guests at your fantasy dinner party? Four guests I would invite to a dinner party would be Jesus, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan and George Washington. Q: What is your most remarkable Pike memory thus far? My favorite Pike memory so far has to be the completion of our SWAMP Party build in 2014. Seeing the finished product of something so many of us put extensive time into felt awesome and really gave me pride in being a Texas Pike. This year's party, held in late November, was the 66th year of SWAMP and is still one of the biggest Greek parties on campus. Q: What priorities or other initiatives do you plan in the year ahead while serving as Beta Mu president? Other initiatives I plan on undertaking while president include continuing to evolve our rush structure and process, expanding the role of the great ladies in our Pike Sweetheart program and further involving/developing the active members of the chapter through Pike committee service.
