Sheperd PROuD TO BE A BETA We are pleased to recognize the following brothers on the milestone anniversaries of their initiation into Beta Theta Pi. My days in Miami as a student have faded with the passage of time, but I will always remember the support, encouragement, and direction that the older members gave to us neophytes in my 'class.' The full meaning of the word 'fraternity' embodies that heritage. -Harry Magill '41 Dick Vogt '54 reports that he and his wife, Dorothy Ann, moved permanently to South Port Square in Port Charlotte, Fla. They have been very happy there and have been well cared for by the employees and the people who live there. While at Miami, Dick was BQP house chairman, president of the University's acapella choir, and Homecoming King in 1956. Nick Mourouzis '59 is a retired professor and head football coach at DePauw University. He still coaches kickers and punters at DePauw, making 56 years of coaching. He and his wife, Marilyn, have been married 56 years. He stays active with as much golf as he can. Nick and Marilyn live in Greencastle, Ind., and have two children. E-mail: nmourouzis@depauw.edu William North '62 and his wife, Cheryl, have four children and live in Sandy Springs, Ga. Though retired, William still works four months of the year as an independent security consultant. He reports that he enjoys Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River as well as travel to Europe and the western United States. E-mail: options37@att.net Tom Cleverdon '67 lives in Norfolk, Mass., with his wife, Chris. They have two children, Katie and Andy '00, a refounding father of Alpha Chapter in 2000. Tom is president of TC Cleverdon & Associates and also takes on the role of organizer for the 1967 Alpha class reunion. E-mail: clevertc@aol.com David Brown '75 and his wife, Katherine, live in Colorado Springs, Colo. They have two daughters and two grandchildren, all who live in Denver. David is a sales representative for Maxx HD Sunglasses. E-mail: debkpb@aol.com John Douglas '78 is assistant general counsel for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. He lives in Oklahoma City and has three sons: John Andrew, Benjamin, and Collin. E-mail: john.douglas@okdhs.org. Chris Gorman '83 was recognized this fall for his support of Minds Matter Cleveland. The organization is volunteer-led and works to transform the lives of high-performing high school students from low-income backgrounds by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college admission and success. Chris is President of Key Corporate Bank and makes his home in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Rob Haley '84 retired as an FBI agent in 2015 after 25-plus years of service. He is now employed as the chief security officer of Employment Screening Services, a national background and drug screening company, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala. Rob lives in Birmingham with his wife, Lori. They have three children: Jessica, Erin, and Christine. E-mail: rhaley1775@gmail.com people I met absolutely helped me become who I am today. Those friendships and the responsibility that I learned living under one roof with 60 other young men—what we had to do to get along while taking care of each other and the Beta house itself—affected my life in a positive way." Kinder sums it up well, "I often think back to how fortunate I was to have made the decision to join Beta. Had I made a different decision and gone with another fraternity, the outcome of my life could have been quite different. As a Beta, I was surrounded by people who were every bit as good a leader as I was. When you're surrounded by that many quality people, it's bound to rub off on you as an individual and they helped me broaden my skill set. I found tremendous camaraderie and role models, plus character building and leadership opportunities. Alpha Chapter is a very big part of who I am today and I would love nothing more than to see it influence future generations in the same way." The legacy these brothers have built makes each of us proud to be a Beta! Professional Sports (Continued from left) Alumni News (Continued on page 6)
