Cochran '68 it was an all-campus party, an intramural competition or some other event, we would arrive together and let the rest of campus know Sigma Pi was present." Jeff has fond memories of his pledge class walkout to Arkansas State as well as many of the St. Pat's and Greek Week events. "It would be great to experience some of those events again!" While Jeff enjoyed all the fun times, he is grateful for everything Alpha Iota did to prepare him for life beyond college. "The fraternity shaped me into a responsible young adult. I learned how to study, organize my time, handle difficult leadership roles, and generally learn to get along with the many different personality types we had in the chapter. It's a great representation of life in the real world." Professionally, Jeff found his calling in the wireless phone industry in 1992 when the industry was just getting started. "I was able to gain a lot of experience at a young age working for a large corporation in a rapidly growing industry, and was able to parlay that into starting my own company in 2000, which I built up for 15 years and finally sold in 2016. Being on both the corporate side and then the entrepreneurial side of business has been very rewarding to me." Jeff says the secret to success is not spending too much time thinking about the past or the future but making the most of the present. He passes on these words of wisdom to undergraduates and younger alumni: "Take on leadership or other volunteer roles in the chapter and on campus, and do the best you can with those responsibilities. These activities really help you understand how things work. Enjoy time with your fraternity brothers as long as you can—you don't realize it now, but these are the best times of your life surrounded by some of the best friends you will ever have." Jeff keeps in touch with his brothers. "I am proud voting member of the Alpha Iota Ballpark Club. We go on a weekend road trip to a different city each year to watch a Cardinals baseball game. It's a great weekend to reconnect with other Alpha Iota alumni. Most of us are from the 1990s, but we have had alumni from all different eras join us over the years, depending on the city we go to. John Flake '92 and I find an excuse to play golf together at least once a year. Jeff Ostermann '96 and I coach a soccer team together that both of our sixth grade daughters play on. Mike Munsell '93 is a partner at a law firm that has been really helpful to my company over the years. I am definitely still connected to the fraternity!" Staying connected to Alpha Iota is very important to Jeff and he encourages his brothers to do the same. "It keeps you feeling young, reminds you of all the great times in your youth, and allows you to see how great most people have turned out as adults. I am proud to be associated with our successful group of alumni and our involvement enables the undergraduates to see how good their future can be and how the brotherhood is there for life if you allow it." Jeff encourages his brothers to join the Alpha Iota Ballpark Club for next summer's outing. "We will watch the Cardinals play in Cincinnati, August 4-5, 2017. Please join us if you can; all alumni are welcome." In his free time, Jeff enjoys golfing, coaching soccer, and spending time with his wife of 22 years, Sherry, and their three children. "We have very active kids that constantly keep us on the run to the next event." Jake (18) is a freshman engineering student at University of Wisconsin, Jaimie (15) is a high school sophomore, and Jacie (11) is in sixth grade.
