ByJulieZeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Vicki Allwardt and several other artists opened the doors to where they spend time creating works of art Saturday as part of Open Studio Tehama County, a two-weekend event. "This is our second year," All- wardt, who helped found the event. "I've been teaching classes since 1983 and I wanted to give people a chance to see how we work. Connie Maxey and Lee War- ner helped me get it started." Open Studio Tehama County is a self-guided tour of eleven artists of various different styles of art from Cottonwood to Los Molinos with the majority of the stops in or near Red Bluff. The first year the Tehama County Arts Council gave them $500 toward getting started and it went so well they decided to go from a one-weekend event to a two weekend event, Allwardt said. Numbers of attendees were down Saturday in part due to the weather, but the previous week- end she had about 30 people Sat- urday and nine on Sunday, she said. Red Bluff Police were sent to the slough bridge at 12:58 a.m. Saturday for a report of an unre- sponsive man. Medical personnel arrived on scene and began to make at- tempts to resuscitate the man, however, efforts were not success- ful and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's identity was not known as of Saturday morning and the investigation is ongoing. ANTELOPE BLVD Man found unresponsive under bridge Staff report RED BLUFF The Tehama County Animal Care Center will be hold- ing a Home for the Holidays pet adoption event Dec. 15-17. During the third annual event, the Care Center will reduce the adoption fees for all dogs to $25 or less, all kittens will be $10 and all adult cats will be avail- able for free. Staff are hoping to use this adoption event to find every dog and cat in the shelter a new home before the new year begins. "The holiday season is often the time families decide to add a new pet to the family," said center manager Christine Mc- Clintock. "We want to encour- age families to look to the shel- ter for their new furry friend." The holiday season is no time to be an unwanted animal. "Winter is especially hard on the animals in the shelter, and we want to see them in a warm, loving home before the year ends," McClintock said. "For that reason, we have reduced our adoption prices to the lowest of the year. We are hoping to find a home for every animal in the shelter during the Home for the Holidays event." Adoptable dogs have been mi- cro-chipped, licensed, started on vaccinations and have been tested for heartworm. Cats are also started on vacci- nations and have tested negative for feline leukemia. Additionally, all spay and neu- ter and rabies vaccination fees for dogs and cats alike will be paid for by Providing Essentials for Tehama Shelter, or PETS. All adopted animals will be spayed or neutered prior to going home with adopters. In addition to low adoption prices, each adopter will receive a stocking filled with toys and treats for their new pet, thanks to generous donations to PETS. Home for the Holidays will be- gin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. Adoption hours for the event will be 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. through Saturday. The Theama County Animal Care Center is at 1830 Walnut St. in Red Bluff. Care Center hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Satur- day. Adoption hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4:30 p.m. If you would like more in- formation regarding adopting, fostering or becoming a Care Center volunteer, call McClin- tock at 527-3439 or write to cm- cclintock52@sbcglobal.net. HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS AnimaladoptioneventstartsThursday By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter REDBLUFF Shoppers trickled in and out of the Tehama District Fairground Saturday where the Red Bluff Christmas Faire was held with 45 vendors available to choose from. It was the third show Row- bear Lowman put on in Red Bluff, but the first one he has done in a few years after spend- ing 35 years as an event pro- moter, he said. "The last one here was in 2010, but we will be doing shows here more regularly," Lowman said. "I was looking for a way to get acquainted with people and get established in the area." Moving here from the Santa Cruz area, he has done shows all over the country and friends everywhere, but wanted to meet people where he lives now, he said. "I've mostly done events for collectors and antique dolls," Lowman said. "I wanted to start doing more events here." He was pleased with the turn- out Saturday, which was down some due to the weather, but had people in and out all day long, he said. There was also a good mix of vendors both in offerings and where they came from with some from Tehama County and others from places like Feather Falls. "It's a fun little event," said Christi Szychulda who had a booth with Plexus products. "It's very well organized and it's an event for all ages. There's a good variety with a mixture of antiques, crafts, food and health and nutrition." Szychulda said Plexus is all about helping to balance the body from the inside out. She liked that the event was well- organized and people were very accommodating when it came to helping those who had out- side spaces with the weather threatening to rain for much of the day. Next to her Liz Merry was selling a variety of items includ- ing vintage comic books and a few booths away Anne Baxter Campbell of Orland was selling her books she has written over the few years. "I've been writing all my life, but I've only been writing fiction for sale for about seven years," Baxter-Campbell said. While the rain did hamper the attendance some, she enjoyed the nice variety of vendors at the event, she said. Sandee Flaman had a Dam- sel In Defense booth with items like a tazer that has a pin in it so that if someone grabs it from you it can't be used against you and Kathy Rogers of Corning Ol- ive Oil had a booth with various flavored olive oils from orange to bacon flavored. Close by Judy Babb and Karim Hayath were represent- ing Second Chance Pet Rescue, which is located at 4312 Rawson Road in Corning. "It's not something we've done before, but it's set up well and the organizer is very nice," said Hayath, a board member with CRAFTS CH RI ST MA S FA IR E OFFERS GIFT OPTIONS PHOTOSBYJULIEZEEB—DAILYNEWS Second Chance Pet Rescue Board Member Karim Hayath and Bella talk with visitors Saturday at the Red Bluff Christmas Faire.
