GOLD SHOW Feb. 10, 11, 12 2017 Quartzsite, Arizona - An aerial drone from a Quartzsite-based You- Tube channel was used in tracking down and arresting an assault sus- pect last week in Quartzsite. On Monday, November 28, Quartzsite Police Dept. (QPD) re- sponded to a disturbance call in the 900 block of West Main Street. Upon arrival the offi cers deter- mined that a male subject had been assaulted with a knife. A witness stated that the suspect, a Cauca- sian male approximately 6'3" with dreadlocks wearing a camoufl age or military style jacket, had been wielding a knife and fl ed the scene southbound over the I-10 bridge. Attempts were made to review the store surveillance unsuccessfully at the time of the incident. Offi cers immediately initiated a search and began to track the sus- pect throughout the community. A male subject matching the descrip- tion was located by QPD Offi cer Weltha and immediately taken into custody for further investigation. Although offi cers believed they had the correct person in custody, the victim was unable to positively identify the suspect detained and the individual was released pending further investigation. On November 29 at 8am offi cers returned to the incident scene and made contact with management and were able to positively identify the suspect, identifi ed as Nathan Montalbano, a transient. After a coordinated effort and search by QPD, La Paz County Sheriff's Offi ce and Arizona DPS, the suspect was located by QPD Detective Lancaster. Upon contact with law enforcement, the suspect fl ed on foot attempting to evade law enforcement, and a foot pursuit en- sured. Through the use of a Police K-9 Wodan and an aerial drone, the suspect was later located on a roof- top and safely taken into custody. Chief William Ponce said, "The Quartzsite Police Department would like to give special thanks to all the local law enforcement agen- cies for their assistance and Russell from Quartzsite TV for the use of his aerial drone. Without the collabora- tion, we would not have been able to apprehend the suspect." | C Q T
