December 7, 2016 www.DesertMessenger.com 27 Basketball has begun and every- one is excited for the new season! The players are pumped and so are the coaches this year. This season the boy's basketball team has a new coach, Mr. Clough. He says that this season will be a learning experience for him and for the freshmen in the team. Thankfully, he has the senior boys to help him out. Mr. Mc- Carty is the coach for the girl's basketball team, and it's his fi rst year of coaching at Salome High School. He is doing his absolute best for the girls so they will have a successful season. There was recently an FBLA Flex Conference on November 10, 2016. It was held at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, and Sa- lome High School's FBLA had the wonderful opportunity to attended the event. There was an amazing opening speaker, Bronkar Lee, who spoke about his unique approach to learning through his story of be- coming a professional saxophone player in just 63 days. He has set multiple world records in juggling and beat boxing as well. Also, he spoke about the value of innovation and creativity. In addition, there were three different workshops, students could pick from, through- out the day. It was a pretty incred- ible trip and many of Salome High School's FBLA members can't wait for next year's FLEX Conference to come back around. In other news, the building trades class has made a good amount of progress on the house. Mr. Drotzmann, the teacher oversee- ing the project, said that the house is coming along good and that they have gotten in the electrical, the plumbing has been ordered, and they have started on the ventilation system. This will allow them to start on the duct work soon. Drotzmann said that they are on schedule and stated, "We hope to be done with the house by the end of the year."
