Red Bluff Art Association President Debby Sipes has been a member since 2005 when she moved to the area from Orange County and first found out about the group at the ArtWalk where members display their work during the two-day event held every year in November. Jeff Fennel and Sandy Vegod got her to join. She loves being a part of the group because of the camaraderie and fellowship she has found, she said. "This event is a celebration of our artists and the fact that they've been together for so many years," Sipes said. "We wanted to show where we have been and where we are going." The back room of the visitor center has a dis- play from several of the founding members from ANNIVERSARY Staff Reports GERBER A Saturday evening collision involving a motorcycle about 5:30 p.m. on San Benito Ave- nue in Gerber resulted in a fatality, according to the California Highway Patrol website. The collision was reported at 5:21 p.m. as a ve- hicle versus motorcycle involving a 1995 Nissan pickup truck. Cal Fire personnel arrived on scene at 5:24 p.m. and at 5:28 p.m. it was reported on the CHP website that the motorcycle rider was in the roadway and they were unable to find a pulse. The man, 36, of Gerber was driving his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on San Benito Avenue, just north of Ramsay Avenue, according to the press release issued Monday by the CHP. His name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. The man was stopped on San Benito Avenue waiting to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. While the man was waiting to make the turn a Nissan truck, driven by Juan Manuel Langarica Pena, 34, of Gerber, was traveling south on San Benito Avenue and failed to stop his vehicle col- liding with the rear of the Harley Davidson, ac- cording to the release. The Tehama County Toys for Tots was started about 12 years by her fa- ther and members of the Marine Corps League and has grown a lot over the years, said Tehama County Toys for Tots Coordinator Michelle Sousa. "We help about 6,000 kids every year and we help the entire family," Sousa said. "We started this venture to give back to those in the community in need, to put a smile on a child's face and bring back the philosophy of belief." The campaign is one that has received tremen- dous support from every- one from the Red Bluff mayor on down, she said. On Saturday, members of the Red Bluff Fire Depart- ment, Red Bluff Police De- partment, Cal Fire, Te- hama County Sheriff's De- partment, Tehama County Young Marines and Sousa Dynasty Nursery were on hand to help with collect- ing donations. The event had 37 en- tries for the lighted pa- rade where the Paskenta Band of the Nomlaki Indi- ans was named Best Over- all with all floats judged on three categories in- cluding theme, decoration and entertainment. Best Float went to Heartshine Foundation and the newest award of Business Choice as selected by the spon- soring businesses went to Community Presbyterian Church. Roger Matz won Best Antique Tractor while Corning Patriots which sported a Corning K-9 sign took home Best An- tique Auto or Truck. Lin- net's Tire 2 won Best Mod- ern Auto. Equestrian was awarded to Kaitlyn White while Corning Union High School swept both march- ing awards. Best March- ing Unit was the Corning High School Drill Team and Best Marching Band went to the Corning Car- dinal Band. Earlier in the day, at- tendees enjoyed a pan- cake breakfast at Java Lanes put on by the Corn- ing Youth Bowlers followed by the craft and gift fair at the Corning Veterans Me- morial Hall where 35 ven- dors had a variety of items for sale.
