1985 • 2001 • 2011 Fayette-Wow O Why so many people choose to live in the All-America City "I could not wait to leave Fayetteville," she said, "but now I realize how much the city cares for the military and how the civilians and the military support and care about each other," she said. All in the group agreed that the mutual caring between soldiers and civilians is an attribute that makes Fayetteville special. That same caring attitude prompts many to move to Fayetteville, remain here after retiring from the military and make this area their permanent home. Perhaps retired Army officer Fred Littlejohn said it best, "Ft. Bragg and Fayetteville have the best symbiotic relationship between a military installation and the surrounding civilian community that I have ever experienced." Littlejohn came to Fayetteville in 1985 and met his wife Karen here. He counts among the area's best attractions the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, the Cape Fear River Trail and the resurgence of downtown. Littlejohn believes that the All- America City Award was well-deserved and fitting for Fayetteville. www.FayettevilleNCChamber.org | 19 ver the holidays last year, some friends who made the move with 7th Special Forces Group from Fort Bragg to Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., visited me here in Fayetteville. After dis- cussing the move to the Eglin area, each family expressed a deep sadness over leaving Fayetteville. One Army officer's wife said the move was difficult for her and her family.
