EXPLORE YOUR PARKS Your Guide to Marin County Parks & Programs WINTER 2016-17 H appy holidays! The winter season is a time of traditions, from giving thanks to ringing in the new year. Whether it's a hike in a preserve after a family dinner, making a wreath at McNears Beach Park, or kicking off a New Year's resolution with zumba at McInnis Park, Marin County Parks invites you to make visiting a park or preserve a part of your holiday tradition. This issue focuses on giving back to the community. We believe everyone should be able to access their parks regardless of the ability to pay. Over the last few Decembers, we've offered free entrance to the three regional parks where a parking fee is required, but, with cold and rainy weather, December is not usually the most popular time to visit. New this year, we're giving you a gift that you actually want—starting in January, free access to all parks on the fi rst Saturday of the month all year long! We named this program "Measure A Days" because the loss in fee revenues will be offset by the Measure A funds approved by voters in 2012. Another program that will launch this winter is the Library Parks Pass Program, a partnership between Marin County Parks, the Marin County Free Library, and other One Tam agency partners. You will be able to check out a park pass for one week from one of the 10 county library branches and visit any of our regional parks for free. You can also attend our free events! All of the events described in this program guide are free, with parking fees waived for participants. We are lucky to serve a community that enjoys and cares about its parks and preserves. Whether it's the volunteers who donate over 17,000 hours annually or the many neighbor- hoods that have pitched in to save the wild places in their backyards, we want to thank you for caring and working so hard to protect our parks.
