F rom the moment he went through recruitment at Lambda Chi Alpha, Mike Metheny '87 felt like Gamma Kappa was the right place for him. He was initially enticed by the social environment, intramurals, and overall house popularity—but stayed because of the brotherhood. Some of his favorite fraternity memories include football Saturdays on the back deck, Cider Swig, Watermelon Fest, and most importantly, meeting his wife, Melissa (an Alpha Delta Pi). As an undergraduate, Mike served as the schol- arship chairman and president. "The leadership roles gave me the opportunity to start developing leadership skills necessary to transition into the business world," Mike says. Without those leadership roles, he wouldn't have es- tablished many of his abilities used in his day-to-day life. Due to his positive experience within the fraternity, Mike felt compelled to give back to LCA. "Think back to col- lege," Mike says. "Ninety-five percent of your positive college memories are going to be from the chapter. The people that came before us made our memories possible— now it's our turn." The campaign is more than just build- ing a house; it's about ensuring and developing a strong future for the chapter. Mike hopes that undergraduates can have similar experiences that he did, and without a chapter house, many of those would not be possible. When he can, Mike enjoys keeping in touch with brothers. He and Mike Wolf '88 have a tradition of going to one away SEC game per year. This year they went to the Mis- souri vs. Florida game. In his spare time, he enjoys golf- ing, working out, trap shooting, and serving on the board of directors at a non-profit organization in Southern New Jersey. He has two children, Olivia and Mitch. Your support continues to propel the chapter forward, maintaining our outstanding successes in academics, campus involvement, and philanthropy. Academic Excellence The chapter's success in academics continues to flourish. After recording one of the chapter's highest GPA's in recent history, we once again re- main above the all-university average for grades, always amidst the top of all Mizzou fraternities. We have built an environment of strong work ethic in the classroom and support of brothers in need. I have nothing but confidence in the future of Gamma Kappa Zeta's excellence in academic leadership. Members Stay Involved I firmly believe that in every corner of Mizzou's campus, members of our chapter will be actively involved. We pride ourselves in not only better- ing our fraternity, but also the Mizzou campus as well. Thomas Cas- simatis '15, Ryan Abeln '16, Kevin Grass '16, and Brendon Williams '16 all served as Rho Gammas during formal recruitment this summer, helping guide new members to IFC. 40,000 Pounds of Food Donated The men of Gamma Kappa Zeta believe in con- tributing to our community and serving those in need. We recently revamped our spring phil- anthropic event, the Lambda Chi Cup, hosting our first ever bubble soccer tournament. We are also preparing for our larger, fall philanthropy, Watermelon Fest. Last year, we raised almost 40,000 pounds of food for Feeding America and
