"This is the happiest court session of the year," Tucker said. "It is so appropriate that National Adoption Day and Thanksgiving Day both occur in the month of November." The ceremony was held one day after the Department of Social Services "Teaming Up To Adopt" conference at the Crown Complex. Approximately 250 people from departments of social services and adoption agencies across the state attended the conference, which featured professional development workshops and guest speakers. Keynote speaker was Sean Tuohy, whose family's story was featured in the film "The Blind Side." Tuohy and his wife adopted an older child, professional football player Michael Oher. There are more than 900 children in foster care in Cumberland County. Emergency Response Classes Rescheduled The December 2-4 session of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) basic training for Cumberland County residents has been rescheduled for Feb. 3, 4 and 5. The location is still Fayetteville Technical Community College, 2201 Hull Rd. Register for the courses online at https://terms.ncem.org/TRS/ logon.do. Agricultural Hall of Fame George Quigley was inducted into the Cumberland County Agricultural Hall of Fame during the annual Farm City Week program held by the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension and the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville on Nov. 18. James Rollings "J.R." Dail was recognized as the 2016 Cumberland County Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. "Since 1996 when he started with the Master Gardener program, George has not left our office," said Cooperative Extension Director Lisa Childers. "He has volunteered more than 8,000 hours with the program and contributed so much to our community, not for recognition, but because of his dedication and commitment to Cooperative Extension and Cumberland County." Quigley served 34 years in the U.S. Army before he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He has volunteered for Cooperative Extension and numerous organizations since his retirement. Dail, a fifth-generation farmer, is the son of James and Wanda Dail. He farms cucumbers, tobacco, soybeans and wheat. Dail and his wife, Charlie, are expecting their first child next year.
