Such as helping out where we could - Working on the committee to bring water to the town; Incorpora- tion of the town; did lots of door to door, collecting signatures; Highly active with the old Veterans Associ- ation; fencing some of the old Gen- eral Patton sites.; Building wheel chair ramps as needed; Installing the cable fence at the Park and volunteering in Celia's Gardens in the Park; Three hours a day at the QIA; Making sandwiches at night and riding the shuttle bus at day. Veterans built the stone support for the fl ag pole at the park, with stone from the Patton site. There are myriad activities carried on each year during the Quartzsite season because of vol- unteers. Without them Quartzsite would remain an weather attrac- tion - except there will be little too do in the way of entertainment- Unless some very wealthy person can pay people to do what is now done for free by volunteers, who don't often hear a thank you. I have already seen a post on Face- book telling of one activity that has cancelled out for the season. Some of us are very old now and there doesn't seem to be much enthusi- asm to follow the footsteps of those who have gone before. I know we have the support of our willing, young full-time stu- dents coming out of our education- al system, but that may be a slow process. We do have many Winter Visitors who volunteer freely, how- ever they are slowly getting tired as they grow older. Through age and disability many of our most willing no longer have the stamina to stay with the task. We hope people will step forward and ask, "Where can I help?" The Senior Center is a good start.
