A New Chapter in Michigan Gamma's Legacy R e a l i z i n g t h e B i l l F i s c u s Vi s i o n Michigan Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon • Michigan State University • Fall 2016 CAMpAiGn MoVES FoRwARd dESpitE ConStRuCtion dElAyS Your Support Is More Important than Ever o n behalf of the campaign leadership, I would like to thank everyone who has participated in our effort to construct a top-notch facility for Michigan Gamma. We've raised $683,922 toward our $1 million goal. We would not be at this stage in the project without the hard work and dedication of so many alumni, and it is gratifying to see many of you step forward with such generous financial support. In October, many alumni were able to come back for Homecoming and were impressed with the progress of the chapter house and undergraduate members. ConstruCtion Completion Date pusheD BaCk Michigan Gamma faced some unexpected obstacles during construction this summer, resulting in SAE F&H renting several hotel rooms to house our undergraduate brothers at the beginning of the school year. Our original construction plan had us breaking ground on May 6, the day classes ended. However, our architect, who F&H used in Bloomington and Terre Haute, did not submit prints for approval to the City of East Lansing until early April, resulting in our construction permit not being approved until mid-June. In that one-month lapse, many of the contractors we had lined up looked for work elsewhere. Unfortunately, the contractor and the project foreman we were left with were less than capable of handling the tight time frame. The decision was made on July 29 to fire the general contractor and project foreman and to bring in a new company to complete the job. Our new general contractor is Westside Building Company out of Lansing, Michigan. They just completed a Marriot Hotel and had a break in their schedule. Mike Schuchaskie is onsite working to complete the project. Unfortunately, the City of East Lansing made us pay a brand new permit fee (no refund of the old permit fee of $14,000) and are making us wait while they review our stamped drawings again (no changes). Although we are disappointed in this setback, we know it is only a temporary situation and we will have our home in the best shape possible later this fall. alumni, we need your support to regenerate our cash flow because of these unexpected expenses. Consider making a one- time contribution or making a payment early on an existing pledge to help us collect the funds needed. make Your Gift toDaY The need is great and the time is short. But right here and now, your financial resources are what will make the difference in the future of our beloved chapter. You will find a pledge card and return envelope included in this newsletter. Please don't put it aside or throw it away—fill it out now and send it today. Remember, all donations are directed to the SAE Foundation and are 100% tax deductible. Additionally, SAE's website features an online giving form that allows you to support the New Chapter in Michigan Gamma's Legacy, Realizing the Bill Fiscus Vision campaign. As with mailed contributions, you are welcome to enter a one-time or recurring gift. Just visit www. sae.net/donate and mark "MIGA CAF" in the comments section. We are still planning to host our chapter house dedication, but it has been pushed back to spring 2017. More details will be available in the future. Again, on behalf of all SAE brothers—past, present, and future—thank you for your interest in and support of our fraternity.
