Our Vision for the Future T here has been a paradigm shift in the housing market at Oklahoma State as today's college students and their parents expect more for their housing dollars. While Gamma Lambda continues to attract some of the top men, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other fraternities that offer better facilities. Chapters such as Phi Gamma Delta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Alpha Gamma Rho, and FarmHouse have already renovated or built new structures, and several other chapters are pursuing significant investments in their facilities. Four years ago, the Gamma Lambda alumni leadership began assessing Beta's future at Oklahoma State. It became clear the house at 1207 University, as well as the annex, were not meeting the needs of today's student. It was clear that we must make a major investment in our chapter house so we can provide a beneficial educational experience in an up-to-date facility that will serve young college men well into the next century. Engineers and architects were engaged to help evaluate our chapter house, and it became clear that a renovation of our beloved home was not a feasible solution. After careful study, assessment, and planning, the Beta Theta Pi Building Corporation has engaged the services of Krittenbrink Architects to design a new chapter house that will serve as a premier living and learning center for future generations of Betas at Oklahoma State. The emphasis of the design will be placed on providing ample study and social space, access to technology, and offer suite-style living arrangements for the undergraduate brothers. Additionally, the design will honor the historical character of the current house. In all areas, the architect has been instructed to address mandatory building and fire code requirements. In addition, we have placed a special emphasis on the use of practical and durable building materials, finishes, and fixtures. The aim is a high-quality durable facility that will provide a safe living and learning environment. project highlights • Bed space for 75 men • Dining hall that will seat more than 100 • An expanded basement with a focus on ample study space • Modern security and fire alarm system • Room design and layout focused on brotherhood and academics • All-new sports court and developed outdoor space "The Beta house at 1207 was dedicated on May 11, 1940, and it is reaching the end of its useful life. There is little that can be done to the physical structure to bring it into the 21st century. While the physical structure isn't what makes a good fraternity a great fraternity, no one can deny it is the focal point of the chapter. The Beta house at 1207 has served this chapter well, and the Beta house has become a testament to the fact that young men want to be Betas at osu despite the condition of their housing. With unprecedented reconstruction of fraternity and sorority housing at osu, we must create the opportunity to build a house that is a testament to the great fraternity that resides within its walls." – GReG CoLPITTs '87 The total cost of this project will be approximately $5.5 million. Financial calculations, through a professional pro forma, show the facility can support debt service of $1.5 million, which results in a fundraising goal of $4 million. project estimate Construction $4,700,000 Furniture and Equipment $500,000 Fundraising and Professional Fees $300,000 tOtal $5,500,000
