I am pleased to extend an opportunity for you contribute in a meaningful way to the Indiana Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon by becoming a member of the Chapter's Alumni Advisory Board. I'm asking for an investment, not of money but of your time, that will pay dividends in the development of the True Gentlemen that make up your Chapter. The Alumni Advisory Board members are the key alumni volunteers responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to the collegiate Chapter, ensuring the Chapter's strong health and continued growth. The Alumni Advisory Board and its member training are organized around the 12 core areas of Chapter operations: There is no set number of members for the Alumni Advisory Board, and you do not need to live in Terre Haute or the surrounding area. With today's technology, all you need is a desire to have a positive impact on a group poised to grow and do great things on Indiana State's campus and in the Terre Haute community. By volunteering on the Alumni Advisory Board, you will help enrich the lives of the Chapter members and make the Chapter stronger. Please contact me if you would be willing to serve on the Indiana Sigma Chapter Alumni Advisory Board. I look forward to hearing from you! Fraternally, Jake Showalter, Ohio Rho '98 Alumni Development Consultant jshowalter@sae.net (216) 407-0508 The lion's roar U nlike many young men who seek to join a fraternity to carry on a family legacy, Dennis McDaniel '94 was in search of a family different than the one he had grown up with; luckily for Dennis, his Indiana Sigma brothers became the family he so desperately needed at an incredibly vulnerable and transitional time in his life. One of his best friends from high school, Matt Dietrich '95, and a new friend from his freshman dorm, Jim Wilson '95, also received bids from Indiana Sigma, and the bond he made with his pledge brothers became thicker than blood. "I probably wouldn't have made it this far in life without my fraternity family," he stated. Dennis shared that he was a troubled young man with an extremely difficult home life, but being a part of SAE provided him with enduring friendships that ultimately saved his life. Fortunately for Dennis, he had the support of his brothers during dark, painful times—brothers who helped him see the light when he couldn't find it himself. Since those dark and desperate times of pain when his brothers intervened, Dennis found Jesus, happiness, and a path that gave his life a whole new meaning and certainty of direction. Several years after Dennis left ISU, he reconnected via Facebook with Chris Hancock '96, who saw the transformations Dennis had made in his life thanks to his faith; Chris arranged for Dennis to attend Indiana Sigma's 40th anniversary celebration. There, Dennis shared his Prayer of the True Gentleman, which he prepared in part by doing a great deal of research on the faith of our founding fathers as well as other notable SAE brothers throughout the history of the fraternity. At the Indiana Sigma anniversary celebration, Dennis was able to reconnect with even more of his SAE brothers and testify how God can redeem a life. "I was humbled by the fact that no one is a lost cause, and I hope I brought Him glory in the process." Although Dennis and his wife, Megan, set out to start a church for Chinese immigrants in their town last fall, a series of unfortunate medical events prevented that dream from becoming a reality. However, they are now actively pursuing a dream of moving to Japan to start a church there in hopes of Dennis becoming a minister for U.S. Military members and their families. "I love traveling around the world and getting to speak to different cultures about how Jesus can save a life," he said. "He has opened doors for me to share what He's done in my life." Dennis also tries to mentor young men that tend to be or are wayward in their path in life. In his spare time, Dennis enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles and traveling with his family. He and his wife have six children: Emma, Madailein, Abigail, Lillian, Ethan, and Claire. They live in Corydon, Ind. Dennis can be reached at megden4jesus@yahoo.com if you would like to reconnect.
