Football Returns to St. Pius The original number 11, Doug Piper '62, meets the current number 11, Matthew Cuellar, as St. Pius' football program begins again after a 20-year hiatus. Randy Frerich, grandfather of a current St. Pius student, played SPX Football B-team in 1969. t hanks to the generous support of our St. Pius X community, we have furnished our faculty and staff with 20 new-to-us refurbished computers to better serve our students. Our previous computers were running Windows XP and our new computers will allow us to update our computer programs and enhance communications for our school. We have 30 new Atlas 12 laptops arriving soon for our student mobile lab. These laptops will allow our students to embrace 21st century education. Discovery Streaming, Britannica Encyclopedia Online, and Ebsco Research Online are just a few of the online resources available for our students to use during classroom time. With your help, we are excited to have the opportunity for more classroom programs in the future. Our middle school technology teacher uses a Promethean Board and students are allowed to participate with their cell phones or tablets. A Promethean Board is an interactive display connected to a computer that allows the teacher or students to communicate online and in-person. There is also an audience response system that allows our students to actively participate in a real-time quiz where they can answer the questions by input on a tablet or cell phone, instead of raising a hand. All students have an equal chance to respond and, therefore, learn. Students learn differently, and our Promethean Board adds to the enjoyment of lessons and uses the main three senses, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic, to aid in the learning process.
