Kappa Kappa Gamma 3 t he fall semester started on a high note for Beta Chi when we learned we had the third-highest chapter GPA with a 3.51. Our vice president of academic excellence, Rachel Sunderlin '14, was excited to share this news with the chapter and rewarded our hard work with an ice cream party during spirit week. The semester got even better when we recruited 88 new members from across the state and country and had sisterhood bonding during the two-week recruitment process. Our new member educator, Chelsie Ackerman '14, has been busy facilitating the new members' integration into the chapter and helping them bond with other members. greek sIege raIses tHousands For readIng Is Fundamental Beta Chi hit the ground running with our first philanthropy event on September 25—Greek Siege, a fort building and kickball competition. For the event, we paired with Triangle Fraternity and raised $3,000 for Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). We hope to use some of these proceeds to start a fall RIF event at a local elementary school and continue our spring RIF event at Tates Creek Elementary. Fall semester In Full swIng On October 8, we hosted our annual Parent's Weekend tailgate for Homecoming Week and on October 12 we held our big/little reveal! The new members finished their pledging period on October 21-22 with initiation and we were all excited for them to become active Kappas. Our philanthropy events for this semester will culminate with Kappa Acts of Kindness Week in November. Philanthropy Chairman Julia Harold '14 has been busy planning daily service projects with her assistant, Delaney Kirbabas '15, to promote our philanthropic spirit around campus and the Lexington community. Additionally, Honour McDaniel '15, alumnae relations chairman, is planning the inaugural Parent's Night Out event for alumnae in December. Beta Chi's semester has already been full of wonderful weeks and we cannot wait for the rest of it!
