External Vice President Henry Dobson '14, Philanthropy and Brotherhood Chairman Justin Hicklin '15, Secretary Blake Woodruff '13, and Evan Weise '14 all attended. Chapter Advisor Ryan Caldwell '98 and Jim Emanuel '79 supported the undergraduates. Each of our men attended different educational sessions in order to bring back a complete understanding of new programming ideas. We elected Jim Garboden as our new international president. During his remarks, he made a strong commitment to champion a fraternity-wide initiative to educate our membership regarding mental health issues. Beta Tau is already responding by organizing a presentation about these issues for later in the semester. It was resolved that the fraternity consider adding "affinity" alumni chapters, not by geographic location, but common interest groups. The most debated issue was the proposal by some chapters to increase the required GPA for initiation to 2.7, as encouraged by the National Interfraternity Council. No action was taken at this Karnea, but it is certain to be discussed at the 2018 Karnea scheduled for St. Louis. Beta Tau will again send a large contingent to that Karnea and plans on bringing along a couple summer pledges. Evan Weise '14, outgoing International President Jody Danneman, Blake Woodruff '13, Henry Dobson '14, International President Jim Garboden, Chapter Advisor Ryan Caldwell '98, and Justin Hicklin '15 celebrate at the biennial Karnea in Orlando, Florida. Investing in the Legacy of Beta Tau Your Contributions Are Needed to Fund Endowed Leader Scholarships I n 2014, we launched the Beta Tau Leaders Memorial Scholarship to honor the proud legacy of brothers who have served Beta Tau Chapter throughout the years. This awards a scholarship to a current undergraduate who exhibits some of the leadership traits essential for the continued success of Beta Tau. It also serves as a memorial to various "Endowed Leaders," who are specifically identified Delts who have had at least $5,000 contributed to the fund in their honor. Traits exhibited by the Endowed Leaders will be utilized to help select the recipient of this scholarship each year. Fred Allen III '52 was identified as the initial target to achieve Endowed Leader status due to his zeal for Delta Tau Delta and ability to keep Delt brothers connected for more than 50 years. More than $5,000 has already been raised in Fred's honor, meaning he is the first honoree to achieve "endowed" status. Additional donations in honor of Fred are welcome to help achieve the overall funds necessary to begin making distributions. Following the tragic loss of undergraduate member Keaton Klein '11 in 2014, he was identified as the second target for Endowed Leader status due to his strong ambition, generosity of time, and focus on friends and family. Bobby Foehlinger '01 has also been identified as a third target for Endowed Leader status. Bobby was an amazing young man who excelled at everything he did. He served in leadership positions at Beta Tau, on campus, as a national DECA officer, and he was a world champion baton twirler for the Cornhusker marching band. Bobby also believed in inspiring others, serving as a motivational speaker, and sharing his motto of "Live, Love, Learn, Leave a Legacy." Bobby's life was tragically cut short at the age of 21 when he was hit by a drunk driver. We believe Bobby is an excellent candidate for Endowed Leader status. We need your help in completing the fundraising for this scholarship. Our goal is to raise an additional $17,000 over the next year and a half to ensure that this scholarship will be fully endowed in time for the first award in 2017. Please consider supporting Fred, Keaton, Bobby, and/or any other Delt by sending your tax-deductible gift payable to the Delta Tau Delta Educational Foundation. Also, please write the name of the designated leader you wish to honor on the memo line. If you would like more information on this scholarship or to honor any other Delt, please write us at the address listed below or e-mail us at nebraskadelts@gmail.com. Contributions can be mailed to: The House Corporation of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity P.O. Box 83655 Lincoln, NE 68501-3655
