PERMANENT ENDOWMENT FUND ESTABLISHED FOR DELTA CHI The Requests of Our Alumni Have Been Answered A t this summer's International Convention, foundation representatives took the vitally important step to both secure the long-term future of our brotherhood and to answer a longstanding request from donors. Following the example of other prominent university and fraternity foundations, they established a Permanent Endowment fund within the Delta Chi Educational Foundation (DCEF). "What exactly is an endowment?" Think of it as a long- term savings account, upon which future goals and dreams can be built. Dollars designated to the fund are combined and saved to build a targeted principal amount, which then generates income to be used for specific purposes. The principal itself is never spent; it remains intact to generate perpetual interest. For many, the words "endowment" and "foundation" are synonymous. As seen with university foundations, endowments can fund everything from buildings to operations, scholarships to department professorships. "How is an endowment unique?" Over many years, our foundation volunteers had identified three primary lanes of giving desired and utilized by our donors. The first two were chapter-level accounts to help build houses (E-CHI accounts) and program-specific donations where a donor wished to see their money work immediately for the good of the undergraduates; for example, donations to fund "A"s' Academy. The new Endowment opens up the third lane desired by many potential donors who wish to see their funds placed in the proverbial lock box; to never go away, to remain available to generate income for many years to come, to be a part of something permanent. The Endowment has been the missing piece of the puzzle that will ensure the brotherhood remains healthy and viable in another 125 years. "Why now?" Within the fraternity world, foundation donations are growing, as donors make generous gifts part of their overall tax planning strategies. The largest fraternities are better able to utilize more dollars to expand programming, launching them further ahead of their contemporaries. As well, there are great fraternities smaller than ours who are hungry for growth to ensure their relevance in the future. "Why me?" you may ask. Donors, like you, are more important than you realize. We can have dreams for our brotherhood, but without financial resources to put the dream in motion, that dream is just another wish. Thanks to YOU, the DCEF will be able to position itself to become the literal foundation for our brotherhood. YOU are Delta Chi. YOU are the legacy. Please consider making a gift to the Delta Chi Educational Foundation part of your own charitable plans by visiting deltachi.org/donate. Thank you! Fraternally, Rod Arnold, Texas A&M '88 Treasurer, The Delta Chi Educational Foundation PAGE 5 The DelTa Chi eDuCaTional FounDaTion One-of-a-Kind Event Held during 2016 Convention Foundation Donors Support the Permanent Endowment W hen most folks think of Louisville, three things come to mind: horse racing, baseball bats, and bourbon. A very special gathering was held for foundation donors during the biennial International Convention in Louisville, with donation proceeds benefiting the newly established Permanent Endowment fund. Brother Rod Arnold, Texas A&M '88, hosted more than 100 donating fraternity brothers and guests at a World of Bourbon event at the renowned Seelbach Hilton Hotel on Friday night. The evening began in the history-rich Rathskeller Room, a basement-level nightspot popular all the way back to World War I-era crowds, including author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Rathskeller Room itself has the look of a grand nightclub, with low lighting, sweeping arches, hand-laid tiles, and unique architecture throughout. Guests were then escorted upstairs to a one-night-only private speakeasy event, featuring more than 63 different selections of special or extremely rare bourbon selections, all for one very special crowd of supporters. Joining Rod as narrator was special guest, brother Fred Minnick, Oklahoma State '01, noted bourbon authority, author, and official Bourbon Ambassador of the Kentucky Derby Museum. Fred led the group through the formal sit-down process for a proper tasting of eight bourbon selections. The group learned about different flavor profiles, and what the effects of ingredients, distillation process, time, and weather can all have on the final product. Reviews from guests were extremely positive, and the Foundation raised almost $20,000 in one night for the Permanent Endowment fund. Many thanks to all of the night's contributors and especially brother Fred Minnick for donating his time and expertise to the event. We look forward to seeing everyone at the Denver 2018 convention. Big event plans are already in the making. More than 100 donors to the Foundation took part in an exclusive bourbon tasting event at the Rathskeller Room in Louisville. Noted bourbon authority Fred Minnick, Oklahoma State '01, led the group through the tasting of eight different bourbons.
