Alpha Nu Chapter 2 W hether as a child, in college, in the Army, or later in life, Sigma Chi has always been there for Thomas Frost '49, providing an open door. The Sigma Chi letters have always been a familiar sight for Tom because as a child, he grew up seeing his father's alumni magazines lying around the house. His father, Thomas Frost '26, was an Alpha Nu. Not only was young Tom a legacy at the chapter through his father and his uncle, Gen. Willis Crittenberger '45, who was initiated as an honorary Sig at Alpha Nu in 1945, but he also had several friends and a cousin, Jack Crittenberger '49, who pledged with him in the summer of 1945 at the University of Texas. Tom was initiated in November 1945 and did not find himself at UT for long—he was drafted into the United States Army shortly after. Tom had the chance to attend a national convention while in the Army as a buck sergeant for Sigma Chi in Chicago, where he met a number of United States Army generals, as well as John Wayne, University of Southern California '29. When Tom's time in the Army was over, he followed his longtime friend from grade school to the University of Wyoming, where he found himself a part of the Gamma Xi Chapter and was elected Pro Consul in May of 1947. A few short years later, Tom had the chance to attend the school he'd always wanted— Washington and Lee, on the other end of the country in Lexington, Va. Tom walked onto campus, not knowing a single soul, but saw a familiar sight. He saw the Sigma Chi letters in the distance, went up to the house, and knocked on the door. The Zeta Chapter welcomed him in like all the others and Tom later served at the Chapter as Consul. "Sigma Chi has always provided an open door and welcomed me with friends, supporters, and collaborators wherever I have been in life," Tom said. Since his college years, Tom returned to San Antonio to More than 70 Years Later, Thomas Frost '49 Shares His Fraternity Experience A True Sigma Chi Legacy take a position in the family business, Frost Bank. Tom had a successful career with the company serving as CEO for 26 years and has recently retired as chairman emeritus of Frost. He is the fourth generation to oversee the banking, insurance, and investment company founded by his great-grandfather in 1868; now with more than $28 billion in assets, over $34 billion in trust, advisory, and brokerage assets, and 126 offices throughout Texas. He is also proud to be a Significant Sig, one of the fraternity's highest honors. Tom was active in the San Antonio Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter for many years, watching it grow from just Alpha Nu brothers to many more, as Chapters have been founded at other Texas schools. "The connections I made in that group have me seeing lots of Sigma Chis everywhere I go," Tom said. He encourages alumni to reach out and find their local alumni Chapter. "Give it a try Alumni News C. Lee Easter Jr. '72 and his wife, Sharon, continue to operate their real estate, home building, and mortgage businesses. Lee enjoys college football, international travel, snow skiing, and his involvement with Rotary International and the Austin Sigma Chi Alumni Chapter. He shares that Sharon enjoys her bible study classes, lunches with girlfriends, and her time as a caregiver in the Stephen Minister program. The couple lives in Austin, Texas. Glen is on active duty in the Marines Corps and lives in Virginia Beach. E-mail: glen.butler@navy.mil to go back and see what it means to you; you would not only meet people who were in the same Chapter as you, but also those who were in other colleges the same time as you." He has truly appreciated the connections the alumni Chapter has given him throughout his life. Tom is impressed by what he has seen from the undergraduate Chapter at Texas. "I am very proud of what they have done: reconstituting the Chapter, reinstituting Fight Night, maintaining strong GPAs, and working hard to serve the community," Tom said. "When I was in Sigma Chi, there were no community efforts whatsoever. I am really proud of all the hard work that has been put toward helping out the Austin community." "Sigma Chi has always been an important element in my life," Tom said. He has appreciated the great lifelong friends the Fraternity has brought him and the strong connections he has with others because of it. Tom and his wife, Patricia, also a native of San Antonio, have been married for over 64 years. They have four sons, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
