ALPHA NU's Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi at The University of Texas H Fall 2016 Founded in 1884 REMEMBERING JAMES AUDREY FREEMAN '84 Alpha Nu Continues to Succeed on Campus Celebrating the Life of a Beloved Brother O n Saturday, June 4, 2016 our Beloved Brother James Audrey Freeman '84 was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Austin, Texas. Over 700 people celebrated his life at the service held at St. James Missionary Baptist Church. No less than seven ministers, a choir and soloists, a Masonic Honor Guard, and over 300 Sigma Chi Brothers participated in the ceremony. The Sigma Chi White Rose Ceremony was conducted and a memorial video was shown during the placing of the White Roses before Audrey's casket. At the cemetery, Audrey was taken to the gravesite in a horse- drawn antique hearse and white doves were released at the closing. I want to thank all Sigma Chi Brothers who donated to help fund Audrey's services. What a magnificent sendoff for our beloved Audrey. From The White Rose Ceremony – "On that day when, the White Cross of Sigma Chi was placed upon James Audrey Freeman, in his heart, he accepted our way of life by lofty principals. The White Cross which he wore on the outside was but a representation of the life that he led on the inside. Today, let us remember the legacy that James Audrey Freeman has left in our hearts as we celebrate his life." Audrey made a lasting impression on all our lives, and we miss him so very much. "Today, James Audrey Freeman calls back to us, 'I have fought the good fight; I have finished my work; the White Cross of Sigma Chi has gained new luster by my life.' – So mote it be." Chapter Continues Success The Alpha Nu Chapter continues to be a leader on campus and in the Austin community. The Chapter sent nine undergraduates to the annual Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, held this past summer at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. The fraternity-wide P4B (Preparation for Brotherhood) Program was the main topic for all. This is the new pledge training initiative that is being conducted throughout the fraternity. The initiative combines online learning with regular pledge meetings plus weekly testing in an eight-week overall pledge program that is now presented in all chapters of the fraternity. At BLTW this year, Alpha Nu was awarded the Outstanding House Corporation Gold Award, the Outstanding Parents' Club Award and the Charles G. Ross Outstanding Chapter Publication Award. Our Longhorn Sig and AN Herald are second to none. The very Connect with Alpha Nu Online Website www.texassigmachi.org Facebook Texas Sigma Chi first Jack Guenther Scholarships will be awarded this Fall (Four $1,000 scholarships each year.) I know that the Chapter is looking forward to seeing many Alpha Nu Alumni attending the annual Fight Night festivities on Friday, November 11. Reach out to the Chapter to get your VIP tickets. I want to encourage each of you to stop by the Sigma Chi House anytime that you are in the area. The Chapter has 46 outstanding new Fall Pledges for you to meet! In Hoc Signo Vinces, John C.
